OT: Hold your breath: Stamkos hurt at World Championships.

@Panger40 Stamkos will NOT return for 3rd. Listed as "upper body injury" and this is huge loss, trailing 3-1 early in 3rd.
Described by someone else as a possible shoulder injury.

From his dad:

Chris Stamkos said from his Unionville, Ontario, home that he watched the game and saw what happened. He said Stamkos finished a check on Timo Helbling in the first period and either a stick or elbow of the Swiss player hit Stamkos in the mouth and jaw. There were reports out of Germany, though, that said it appeared Stamkos injured his shoulder. Either way, Stamkos left the ice for about 10 minutes, returned for the second period and then did not play the third.

"It didn't seem terrible," Chris Stamkos said. "I didn't see any cuts."

Team Canada characterized the injury simply as upper-body, and there was no immediate word on if Stamkos will play in Canada's next game on Friday. Chris Stamkos said he had yet to speak to Steven, but added, "If it was something bad, he would have called me. That's why I don't think it's serious.''

Stamkos left Canada’s game today with what was called an upper body injury & did not finish. They plan on reevaluating him in the morning.

ugh... I hate when crap like this happens... Hope it's something minor.. :(

Doctor Drej 05-12-2010 09:59 PM

Kill That ****ing *********!!!!!!!

CSampson 05-12-2010 10:46 PM

I was under the impression it was simply a high stick that cut him or something...****ing worlds.

BoltSonian33 05-13-2010 03:34 AM

i saw parts of the game, and he returned for a breif period of the game after being out for ten minutes, afterwards he did not come back.from that what the commentators said, the injury wasnt that bad.but what do they know anyways...really hope it isnt that bad

gobolt7 05-13-2010 06:20 AM

reporterchris Steven Stamkos not on the ice for Canada's practice at world championship.

reporterchris Stamkos will sit out tomorrow's game as a precaution. Eberle is in.

Hopefully more precautionary stuff.

TASA 05-13-2010 09:49 AM

Hopefully it's just a sore jaw.

Hockeyfan02 05-13-2010 12:46 PM

From DC's blog.

Reports out of the world championship in Germany concerning Steven Stamkos, indicate the Tampa Bay Lightning star may have a concussion.

The Canwest News Service reported on Thursday that Stamkos, hurt Wednesday in Canada's 4-1 loss to Switzerland, will miss Friday's game, and Canada GM Mark Messier said, "I think it's just a protocol that you follow when someone has the symptoms that he had. It's not a blunt blow to the head, that kind of concussion. It's a different kind when you get hit in the jaw."

Still All In 05-13-2010 01:47 PM

****ing wonderful.

CSampson 05-13-2010 02:13 PM

At least it wasn't a direct blow to the head. Seems like it's just precautionary more then anything, so it shouldn't really hurt his summer. Hopefully if it lingers he doesn't force himself to play in the worlds. Russia will easily win anyways (well, you'd think so...).

Doctor Drej 05-13-2010 02:52 PM

Just fabulous.

BadHammy* 05-13-2010 03:29 PM

ESPN calls it a possible concussion. I'm pissed if it's anything close to that bad.

Kristia 05-14-2010 10:11 AM

Lightning head medical trainer Tommy Mulligan said star center Steven Stamkos is complaining more about a sore jaw than concussion symptoms.

That is a big reason Mulligan on Thursday called the concussion Stamkos sustained at the world championship in Germany mild.

Concussion, mild or not... Just lovely..:shakehead
