Stick Flex

I got a question about stick flexes, I am 19 I have been playing hockey for a few years and I use a one95 102 flex malkin stick. My slapshot is fine but I am having problems with my snap shot, do you think this is due somewhat because of the 102 flex or what? Any stick recommendations of flex recommendations? Thanks

Height/Weight/Do you cut the stick at all.

Unless you're a really big kid I'm going to take a wild guess and say you will see an improvement to ALL of your shots by going down to an 87 flex. You'd have to be over 200lb to really get the most out of a 102.

Forgot to say im about 6'3" and weigh 150lbs but thanks I think I will try that and no I don't like cutting sticks because I like them long since I am sort of tall.

Yeah, at your height there's no need to cut I just had no idea whether you were 5'8 or 6'8 lol

At 150lbs you definitely don't want a 102. An 87 or even a 77 will give you good flex. The 77 will probably be too flimsy for your slapshot, but would give you nice results everywhere else. The 87 will probably be great. The rule of thumb is flex should be roughly 2x body weight.

Ah I see well thanks a lot for your help if I get a new stick I'll let you know what I get and how it works. Thinking either X:60 or S19.

I've considered the S19 a bunch of times, but I like the concave feel of the X:60 (and One95) shafts.

PM me or email me at SROhlms@yahoo.com if you're interested in learning about gaining weight through nutrition and weightlifting.

The people who claim what you just did, "Tried to gain weight, eat constantly, and lift hard, but it's impossible", simply are not eating enough. You think you're eating enough, but you're not doing enough. You need to write it down. Keep track of it. Find your BMR and eat 500 calories over this each day. But eat clean, quality calories and watch your macronutrient ratios. If you want to know what I'm talking about, let me know.

The BIGGEST key to flexing the stick is balance and technique, not raw strength. Remember that the stick is merely a lever, an extension through which to transfer energy, and you must try to flex it at just the right time on a wrist or snap shot. Obviously, if you're 6'3, 150, you probably should be looking into a flex closer to 80 than 102.

Yeah looks like I need to get an 87/85 flex and I just so happen to break my one95 yesterday...damn orange pucks. Don't recommend slapping those unless you have perfect form.

would definitely try an 87 flex, but a buddy of mine is around the 6' 150 mark or so and he flex is fairly well. I'd imagine even at 150 you'll still be able to flex the 102 fairly well at 6'3.

Then again, there's a guy on my team who's about 6'5 and can't weigh more than 165 pounds and he has the best snappers I've seen with an 85 flex.
