Weber & Klein at Memorial Cup

Last night Kelowna Rockets and Shea Weber beat the Guelph Storm with the other Preds prospect Kevin Klein 1-0.

http://memcup.leaguestat.com/stats/g....php?game_id=1

Good game, both Preds defensive prospects looked very good and played 25-30 minutes. Klein was on the ice when Kelowna scored a power play goal, he couldn't be blamed.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/artic...15_215630_4880

Klein looked alot like Weber, stay at home tough d-man, but both made a couple rushes up the ice.

Had to laugh in the second period, I think it was St. Pierre was coming up the ice and instead of Weber hitting him to stop him. Shea just pushed him, and St. Pierre went flying backwards to the ice, the strength Weber has is great.

An off day yesterday for both Preds prospects, but Preds fans get ready, one of each will be playing for the next 4 days starting tonight with Weber and his Rockets facing Gatineau of the Q. Game starts 7 central.

Shea didn't take long to make his mark felt on the Quebecors. In the first five minutes of the game, Shea has a goal and an assist as the Rockets lead 2-0. Go WHL!

Joe T Choker 05-17-2004 10:08 PM

1 goal and 2 assists through 2 periods for our boy Shea...I wonder if he'll be one of the three stars?...lol

:yo: Weber gets the Game Winning Goal and is named the #1 star :yo:

Upchuck19 05-18-2004 08:21 AM

Shea played a great game, not only on the scoresheet, but with some solid defensive play and hard clean hits.

One goals and two assists, great game!

Is there any press in the Nashville area about Weber and Klein in the Memorial Cup?

Basher 05-18-2004 04:41 PM

The only thing I've come across was at the bottom of this article. Not a lot, but its good for the Tennessean.

Shea Weber... what a player!

Holy jeez, you guys have a great defenseman on your hands.

Wow.

Its better than what our HF writer can come up with as well. Heck.......he isn't even in the top 20 on our HF list/nor ranked on the depth chart... :/

''It's my understanding that Weber is a little further along in terms of physical maturity and size,'' Peterson said. ''We're always looking for a 6-3 defenseman. It would be hard to make that step up, but why not give him a look?''

Weber hits like a young Scott Stevens, both Klein and Weber will be in a Pred uniform in a couple years.

Weber had another assist tonight as the Rockets beat the WHL champion Medicine Hat Tigers 2-1. Weber has 1 goal and 3 assists through 3 Memorial Cup games. Kelowna is 3-0 and has beaten each CHL champion.

Shea had a real good game, but pinched once and missed and gave up a two on one. The Tigersdidn't score, but it was a great game.

Good artical about Shea in the paper.

Don't know if it's been brought up, but Weber was voted as the most under-rated player in the WHL Western Conference and the best-defensive-defenseman in the WHL W.C. for the 2004 Best of the West awards. These awards are voted on by players, management, and broadcasters (can't vote for people on your own team).

Rockets win the Memorial Cup!

Shea didn't have a point in the 2-1 win over Gatineau, but he was +1.

Shea Weber was named to the all-Memorial Cup Team

Shea and the whole team played great, what a season. Shea Weber improved so much this year, if he's in Kelowna next year he will rule the defense core. If there is a NHL season next year, Shea has a shot at making the Preds.

I heard Nashville send some scouts and coaches to Kelowna, if they have any comments about Shea can you guys provide a link or post what they say about his play?

Joe T Choker 05-24-2004 03:45 PM

from the Sunday Titanseean:

''They were both among the best players in the tournament, and they each controlled the game for their teams in terms of playing big minutes,'' Trotz said. ''Weber's going to play in the NHL. He's a big guy who can skate and play with an edge. Klein's very poised and maybe a little more polished than Weber.''

Trotz said he sees no reason to try to rush either player into the NHL.

Definitely no need to rush Shea. He could stand use another season in the Dub. Let's hope he brings the level of play he had in the playoffs this year to the regular season next year. I hate to rush players like this. If he isn't too polished, then he could stand to work on the aspects of his game that aren't perfect. It's something that a lot of Preds prospects haven't been able to do.

Weber had an outstanding tournament. I remember hearing the comentators saying that "they should be ordering his uniform for next years World Junior team already for him". Which is very true. No doubt in my mind.

Nothing against Weber, but Klein will be much more valuable to you in the long run. Not a lot of attention seems to be paid to him, but that might because of his non-flashy style. He can do everything though. He definitely deserves a 7 rating on the HF page after this year...

We don't get rankings like that.

I like Klein alot, he had a good Memorial Cup. But Shea Weber is much more physical than Klein. I don't know why Weber wasn't on the HF list, he improved so much this year.

Nashville has not had a writer to do the player ratings
