Wild looking at Swede Fredrik Pettersson

Frölunda-and three-forward Fredrik Pettersson is also close to an NHL contract and fled across the Atlantic.
On June 15 is the deadline for transition to the NHL.
- We are in discussion with a three-four clubs. What we are working towards an NHL contract, "said his agent, Donald Bodén.
One of the clubs who are looking for Pettersson, according to data to SPORT-Expressen, the Minnesota Wild.
If he signs, you'll be happy.
Former Oilers pick who was unsigned. He's blossomed in the SEL, where he was among the leading goal scorers last season.
I'm not sure his offense will translate, but even if he doesn't, he's got speed and he plays tenacious hockey. At worst, he becomes a hardworking, speedy third liner. At best, I think you could have yourself a two-way player who can score 30 goals and play in every situation.
I'd hoped the Wings might sign him.

Mittens would look good on another team as well.

GopherState 06-06-2010 12:06 PM

One more year, although it sounds like this guy could be similar to Mittens.

*coughs*

Remember him with the Hitmen, wasn't all that impressed with him. Miettinen put up better numbers in the FNL than Pettersson in the SEL, so its hard to see him instantly supplanting Miettinen. Don't really see how he'd help this team, unless its as a prospect given his age(23).

shleeban 06-06-2010 03:10 PM

wouldnt mind seein him in houston on a line with gillies for a year

mnwildgophers 06-06-2010 03:19 PM

If it adds to prospect pool, this is a good thing.

Exactly. Anything that increases the organizational depth and potentially lessens the chances of somebody being forced into the NHL too soon is a good thing. Except with the most elite talent, I really think they need to develop in juniors and the NCAA & AHL. If this guy can cone in and fill another NHL roster spot and fulfill whatever role they give him, it jus gives the kids that much more time to develop at a level of play that isn't over their heads.

His contract wouldn't look so good on the 3rd line.

Systemfel 06-06-2010 06:37 PM

Freddie's a huge, ginormous, fan favorite among Frölunda faithful.

He has stated that he's looking for a good situation to come into. He's not going to take any contract and dog it in the AHL and hope for the best.

rynryn 06-06-2010 06:41 PM

but are we going to be able to sell off mittens in a non-deadline deal? i hope we wouldn't play him on the first line based solely on how much money he makes. ;)

well he has a better chance of seeing NHL ice with the Wild than he does with just about anyone else.

Oh I agree, I don't want him on the top line either. His signing was just another example of DR stupidity. I'd ASSume that he'd be gone in any way possible... who knows, maybe we get lucky and he's traded on draft day.

Well, maybe he just likes the sweaters? I'm sure Gaby wouldn't mind him taking his number...

shleeban 06-06-2010 09:09 PM

wow im impressed after that video, he has some talent and i want him on our first line:handclap:

firstroundbust 06-06-2010 09:32 PM

the swedish chuck kobasew?

shleeban 06-06-2010 09:47 PM

kobasew doesnt have that good of puck skills.

State of Hockey 06-06-2010 10:34 PM

Eh, looks like a smaller, more nimble Miettinen. I wouldn't be jumping for joy if he signs.

Players 23 years old really don't help the prospect pool. We need help at 18-20, not 23-25.

He's making 3rd-line money. . .

Last time I hear the words "captain material" applied to an older Swedish prospect was with Rikkard Wallin. Playing tough in the SEL doesn't mean squat in the NHL.

TaLoN 06-07-2010 03:52 AM

I'll reserve judgement until I see him in the NHL. His lack of size will be a problem in his transition to the NHL.

He's making more money than Wes Walz made as an elite 3rd liner... and Miettinen is no Wes Walz.

Sunk cost, irrelevant.

BigT2002 06-07-2010 08:56 AM

I'd have to see what that kid could do on NHL regulated ice before I'd be convinced. We all know how much more scoring friendly international ice can be...

It does help tho, as stated earlier it prevents our draft picks being rushed to the NHL. Any players picked up by the wild with potential that keep our drafted players from being rushed is the best way to go, and restock. keep it up CF! so far im proud to have you as our GM.
