As per Bob McKenzie's segment on the Team 990

got this from a poster on the other board who was listening in

Nothing particularly new. But worth noting nonethless.

-----------------------

- Both Halak and Price are on the block to gauge who will bring the most back in return.

- Versteeg, Sopel, Campbell and Huet are all on the trading block. However, the chances of Campbell and Huet being moved are very slim to none. Expect Huet to be dumped to the minors.

- Nathan Horton and Jason Spezza are available for the right price.

- Odds are Ryan Malone will be dealt before July 1st
I would not be surprised if either goalie will yield us Malone, but his salary is quite high.

That should settle the debate....both are tradable.

I think you could get Malone pretty easy for either goalie.

Ryan Malone I really really like, but not at the salary he is making. We already have a couple of really overpaid guys, can't afford yet another one.

Yeah, 4.5 M for a 45 points player is expensive...we probably should pass...

yanokovich 06-13-2010 08:03 AM

5 years 4,5 millions.

1) I thought he was making 5,5 .. my mistake.

2) 5 years at 4.5 ... hmmm would this mean we would have to let Plekanec go? Or just that Andrei would be traded?

odishabs 06-13-2010 08:31 AM

woold any body else do...

to montreal: Carter Ashton, Ryan Malone, and a 2nd round pick
to tampa: Carey Price and Roman Hamrlik

odishabs 06-13-2010 08:35 AM

than

to montreal: Andrew Ladd
to Chicago: Sergei Kostitsyn

than

dump andrei for a prospect

malone - gomez - gionta
Ladd - Plekanec - cammalleri
Pouliot - moore - ashton
moen - lapierre - trotter

markov - subban
gorges - gill
spacek - o'byrne

halak
biron

Pascal 06-13-2010 08:36 AM

They're going to be hard-pressed to not be making a mistake by trading EITHER goalies this summer, in my opinion.

If they trade Halak they risk having Price not being as good as they would hope and/or Halak turns out to be a top 5-10 goalie in the league.

If they trade Price they're getting off-peak value for him and risk having him become a top 5-10 goalie and/or Halak's bubble bursts and he can't handle being a #1 for a whole season.

Too many risks involved. I'd wait to trade one of them unless there's a great package offered that fixes some of our gaping holes (size in the middle, scoring)

le_sean 06-13-2010 09:34 AM

I think you have to jump on the opportunity if a player like Malone is available. The Habs are in desperate need for a big body that can cycle the puck down low in the top six and stand in front of the net. I'm tired of seeing stop gaps like Moen or Pyatt used to add that grit.

If we can move Andrei it would be great as it would give us a little more breathing room to fit Malone under the cap.

One thing is for sure, Hamrlik needs to be moved.

Shabutie 06-13-2010 09:45 AM

Horton offers a better package at a better cap (4m), even though he'd be more expensive in terms of assets. Versteeg @ 3m is also more enticing.

JHabs 06-13-2010 09:49 AM

If Montreal trades a goalie and we are not getting a better top 6 forward, or a 1st pick back I will rage and be furious.

Pax Macioretty 06-13-2010 09:49 AM

Why are you guys talking about Malone when Horton is available?

CareyClutch 06-13-2010 09:49 AM

I trust PG on that one

Horton is interesting, although as a reputation of being lazy. As for Versteeg, small and not physical, not what we need at all. Pass.

Horton at 4M or Malone at 4.5M ? Tough call. I prefer Horton for is youth and Malone as 5 years left until 36 for is contract and a 35-36 poward forward is usually on the downfall.

Good question. Give me Horton over Malone any day.

Oleg Petrov 06-13-2010 10:11 AM

I think we are talking about Malone instead of Horton because:

1) It will take less to get him
2) He's meaner and bigger than Horton
3) He's won before
4) We can move a goalie for Malone where as FLA will be looking for position players.

Andy 06-13-2010 10:14 AM

Imagine Price under Boucher! :S

All very good points. I actually think we can get more than Malone for Halak if we include a little something else.

To TB: Halak, Mtl 2010 1st + A. Kost
To Mtl: Malone + TB 2010 1st

I'm willing to add something else (Pacioretty or whatever) to make this happen.

By acquiring Malone, AKOST does become expendable. I would then let Plekanec walk and give an opportunity to one of the farm hands at the second center position.
I think that Desharnais could get the job done with Malone and Cammy on his wings.

Yup, I stated a few times that Malone would fit our system well and help our top 6.....Getting him for a G should not be an issue...as TB is on the market for a G.....

Why Desharnais? you defeat the purpose of adding Malone by bringing up another smurf......dont think he is the right guy for that job at this time....

Those are all valid, indeed....and horton's contract is two years where if we pay for Malone, we have him locked down for 4 years....

With TB 2010 1st, I would then try to move up a few spots to try and get Gudbranson or Fowler, preerably Gudbranson.

Because I'm buyist; Loved this guy since Junior. he's such a good/smart hockey player. I really believe that if he was given an opportunity to play with elite players, we would have Brian Gionta V 2.0 on our hands.

OK, Ill buy that...I really havent seen him too often so I cannot contradict that but I know that size wise, the fit is not great with Montreal.....
