Habs want Giroux for Price

 I think they are crazy for expecting this..

But sources tell the Philadelphia Inquirer that if Montreal were to explore a deal involving Price, they would ask for Claude Giroux in return. The Inquirer adds: "That makes a deal with the Canadiens virtually impossible."
This was from ESPN insider via the Inquierer.

As someone who wanted to trade Giroux for Price a few months ago, I now think the best option is to sign Turco for a couple years and see what Bobro and Eriksson can do before we go after a young G unless the Nucks are willing to give up Schneider for cheap.

If you don't want to pay, don't bother calling. Why would the Canadiens trade for another 3rd liner forward/3rd pairing dman?

StandingCow 06-15-2010 08:58 AM

I don't think I can say no enough times or in a big enough font to emphasis my distaste for any thought about trading Giroux.

We had better not move him.

King Woodballs 06-15-2010 08:58 AM

Philly really was a goalie away from winning the cup in my opinion.
On the flip side Giroux isnt going for a goalie unless it was a 27 year old Brodeur.

I'll take a 24 year old Brodeur?

JLHockeyKnight 06-15-2010 09:00 AM

I can't describe how hilarious Montreal is for thinking that's a fair deal on Philly's end.

I agree. The first two games, we would have had... if leights could have stopped what should have been (NOT pinning it on him, just saying...), and the final game, there were two shots that should have been stopped.

What can you do?

They can ask for whoever the hell they want, doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

This, I hate Leighton but I would go with a Leighton / Schneider combo. If not, Turco/Boosh and hope to hell that Bobka or Eriksson work out.

Couldn't agree more, that would probably be the worst trade for the team at the moment. With the skill and poise he has shown in the playoffs the past two years. How could you just trade that away.

This, I was at the Spearmint Rhino in Vegas and asked the stripper if she would pay me to give me a lap dance ???

Exactly.

We could propose Krajicek for Price. Not gonna happen, but we can ask.

McNasty 06-15-2010 09:10 AM

Of course that's where they would start, and who can blame them? Giroux is all but untouchable at this time because of the awesomeness to salary ratio. I would love to get Price but I just don't see any way it gets pulled off unless they trade Carter, which I'm against.

MsWoof 06-15-2010 09:12 AM

Are the Habs trying to corner the market on forwards under 6'? I wouldn't take this deal as a Flyers fan.

If we make that trade we're a Giroux away from winning the Cup. Too many other options out there to lose a guy like Claude. No offense meant to Price he's going West.

RJ8812* 06-15-2010 09:15 AM

Hahhah just as delusional as their fans

ForsbergIsOdin 06-15-2010 09:15 AM

The Flyers need to not trade Giroux or JVR.

IrishSniper87 06-15-2010 09:16 AM

IMHO, Coburn for Price is fair.

I'm still not sold on Price. So hyped up for so long and he is average and everyone knows his trouble with the glove hand.

Still young though.

Yup, IMO this is just posturing. It's just Montreal trying to raise his value and let the rest of the league and the Flyers know how highly they value him, or at least how how they are pretending his value is. Your crazy if you think the Habs would come out before FA even starts and say "we'll take what we can get for him, Coburn sounds good". I guarentees if they do that, the Flyers turn around and say "nah, how about Carle".

Overblown. I've seen him against San Jose and a few other tough teams this year and his glove hand was excellent. He was making sharp reflex glove saves look easy. You can't turn it on and off if it's not there to begin with. I know he suffered with the glove in the Playoffs against us in his rookie year but I'll chalk that up to injury jitters and Philly traffic.

Perhaps, but goalies are so volatile and Giroux is the closest we have to a sure thing IMHO. It's a huge risk.

Maybe we can send them Maroon for P.K. Subban, you know, because we highly value "Fat Pat"

I'd like Price here, but not for Giroux or JVR. No thanks.

I'd rather so a deal centered around Gagne to be honest.

Agreed on all counts. Giroux's offense is impressive but he's really won me over with the physical aspect he's shown.
That's really the only thing that disappointed me with JVR, he's huge and Giroux seems much more physically active than him.

Montreal isn't in any position to be asking the world for Price. The franchise has all but given up on Price and yet they expect to get a top six forward for him? Come on now, the Canadiens have completely devalued Price. There's no way they get a top six forward from any team for him. Montreal will be lucky to get a prospect and a mid round pick.

They can get a top 6 forward for him, I just don't think it's going to be a player with Giroux's potential.
