Sidney Crosby

As a Leafs fan, I'd give up:

Kulemin
Schenn
Kadri
Phaneuf

And that still won't get it done.

pennerstheman 06-18-2010 12:00 PM

Just stop

Kaberle alone should get Crosby :sarcasm:

Crosby will never be traded. Besides being possibly the best playing in the league, he brings in a ton of money for Pittsburgh through merchandise.

Why even start this, you know what its gonna lead too...

Kulemin too? Wow!

wej20 06-18-2010 12:05 PM

I don't see a situation where Pens trade Crosby.

In terms of value, it would probably take:

Kessel
Kadri
Phaneuf

Bruins4Ever 06-18-2010 12:06 PM

Add Kessel and then some.

CareyClutch 06-18-2010 12:07 PM

Right to M.A Bergeron+Ryan White+Andrei Kostitsyn

Take it Pittsburgh or no deal

Unless Crosby seriously tails off production wise at some point, he is absolutely untradeable.

Since trading for cash or cap space is illegal now, there is simply no trade that could benefit the Pens. From a business perspective they make far too much money from Crosby to ever let him go. From a team success perspective, Crosby is the best player in the world at a more than reasonable salary.

Value wise, I could see two elite rookies still on ELC's plus some additional picks and prospects being fair value, but that still does not address the marketing value Crosby has, and thus, it will never happen.

therealkoho 06-18-2010 12:08 PM

I think he can be had for Tomas Kaberle + Mikhail Grabovski.......only of course if the Pens add a 3rd coming back

....it had to be said

Johnson
Oshie
Perron
Boyes
1st the next 5 years

NeilYoung 06-18-2010 12:10 PM

I can't think of even one scenario where the pens would even entertain the idea of trading 87.

He said a first round pick and Hemsky.

BozakKadriKessel 06-18-2010 12:13 PM

O.k.. before this gets brought out to far.. The great #99 was traded so anyone can be traded.. But with that said it is highly unlikely.

Highbrow 06-18-2010 12:13 PM

Blues offer Halak :)

The problem also becomes one of finances. Sure it's one thing to list 5 current players and ten first round picks, and say maybe that would get Crosby. But what's the value of those players? What's the cost of those players + picks compared to Crosby's salary?

Right now, the Pens are getting a 100+ point scorer, leader and all around dominant player, for $8.7 million. For any deal to make sense, not only do the Pens have to receive equal value (productive players who can score and hustle the way he does), but they also have to combine to make $8.7 million. Otherwise, the Pens are paying more salary for equal or less value.

For example (and just for argument's sake), Edmonton could offer Hemsky, the 1st overall, and Eberle for Crosby. The Pens then have to ask themselves not only whether those three will equal Crosby's production, but how much will those three cost combined when they reach their prime. If Hemsky, Hall and Eberle come close to reaching their ceiling, they're all looking at between $4 to $6 million per year, which suddenly means the Pens are spending $12 to $15 million, just for similar production as they get out of Crosby at $8.7 million.

SteelGeno 06-18-2010 12:14 PM

if it were still permitted to trade cash, how much would it take?

Tor:
Kessel
Phaneuf
kadri
Schenn
2 First Rd Picks
40 Million Bucks?
:naughty:

jcbio11 06-18-2010 12:15 PM

Value wise the only player that can be traded for Crosby straight up is Ovechkin (seeing as how Pens can't trade with themselves and give up Malkin for Crosby).
