Pimp My Arena featuring Jeff Vinik

Quote:

“We appreciate Mr. Vinik for taking our opinions into consideration before moving forward with his alterations to the ice and rink system,” said Martin St. Louis. “I know things have been strained in the past and it will be good to be able to play the game in the very best environment possible.”
Yes Mr. Vinik, keep St. Louis happy. You'll be glad you did.

Quote:

“The new Zambonis have been a priority for me for years,” said Friedenberger. “We take pride in our work and knowing we could do better but being held back was frustrating for us. We hold our players to high standards and helping provide them with the best conditions possible to play the game was important. Thanks to Mr. Vinik, we can now do that.”
**** me, its like we just found a rich uncle.

Bobsled you are too funny!

If he's taking suggestions the seats could use a pressure washing and replacement seat IDs too.

Felonious Python 06-18-2010 04:37 PM

What's happening to the old ZAMBONI® ice resurfacing machines?

Yeah, that's right, I read the copyright notice.

An owner with money. Who's willing to spend the money and is actually backing up his words with his wallet. Feels like Christmas :)

BoltSonian33 06-18-2010 04:40 PM

When purchasing the Tampa Bay Lightning and the leasehold rights to the St. Pete Times Forum in March, new owner Jeff Vinik pledged to begin a series of summer renovations and facility upgrades that aim to improve the interior of the St. Pete Times Forum and bolster its reputation as the world-class home of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

:naughty:

Email him. Given what they're doing now, though, i'm sure its probably on the list.

Razzmatazz 06-18-2010 07:27 PM

So does this mean they are keeping Kurtis Foster after all?

Vasilevskiy 06-18-2010 08:18 PM

Vinik is da man

BRichards19 06-18-2010 08:53 PM

This is what got me the most excited:

Quote:

According to Miracle, the total number of glass panels will be cut in half due to different dimensions that will span six feet in height and eight feet in width, creating a greater vantage point for fans to view the game with fewer obstructions.
I would hate sitting down in the corner and not being able to see the play in the other end. Plus then you get the handful of fans that feel the need to stand up to see the play and block everyone else's view.

Vinik is getting an A+ from me thus far. Yzerman, Boucher, and rink upgrades to boot! I'm expecting a lot in free agency now, though with the cap limitations I'm trying to temper that enthusiasm.

BeachBolt 06-18-2010 11:36 PM

Man oh man it's going to be nice to go to a game and feel confident in the product surrounding me. Even if the team isn't that much better, there will at least be a quality professional feel to the games, which was lacking in a few ways before. I'm almost positive attendance will see a very solid bump up this year.

I think Yzerman said somewhere that he wouldn't be involved in the first day of free agency and that he would start looking for free agents after the first big day.

Since my tickets are row G lower level I would like a seamless glass system but this is stiffer and has resulted in more player injuries. The old "glass" in the forum had a lot of "give".

This guy seems like he wants to give his players and his fans the best. Enjoy it. At least you don't have Dolan as your owner. All he sees is $$$

We need the locker room redone........it looks like the away room for rinks; square white room with a big lightning carpet

They need the TV's to divert attention from the joke of a franchise there.

I actually think the locker room is pretty classy.

our head ice technician's name is Tom Miracle? what's the over\under on the number of "miracle on ice" puns he hears each time he's out there examining the surface?

New Dasher boards arrived today!

Going Back to Cally 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

Quote:

• The new boards feature an upper lip with rounded plastic edges. The previous boards had squared edges, one of which in 2003 gashed the face of former defenseman Jassen Cullimore, who needed 70 stitches to close the wound.

• The glass will feature improved sight lines as each pane will be held by extrusions 8 feet apart compared to 4 feet previously. The Thrashers have this system and it looks very cool and works well.

• The yellow kick plate at the bottom of the boards is now embedded. Previously, the kick plate was an add-on and could cause unpredictable puck bounces.

• Two new Zambonis were purchased for a combined $170,000, the teams said. The old Zambonis were from 1987 and 1994.

• Banners for each league team will hang from the rafters.

• Lightning signs will dress up the front of the press box.

• More flat-screen televisions in the concourses, which have been cleaned and painted. There also are more recycling bins throughout the building and the floor of the concourse has been ground down for a new floor that goes in next summer.
Drivin' round in a 1987 zamboni like you a broke ass mother****er c'mon dawg.

Not a fan of banners from every other team hanging in the rafters.

Everything else sounds great though.
