Moore MUST be re-signed

Dominic Moore was an absolute beast for us in the playoffs and brought a ton of smarts and energy. If they dont re-sign him I believe it would be a mistake.

Thoughts?

overlords 06-23-2010 12:04 AM

only if they somehow get rid of gomez, which they won't. Start saying your goodbyes.

Analyzer* 06-23-2010 12:05 AM

Sort of agree.

He was very good for us. If he comes cheap (around what he made last year) no problem re-signing him.

vokiel 06-23-2010 12:12 AM

I agree, he's a hard worker and fits perfectly well in this lineup.

I got the impression that Gauthier was having problems resigning him because Dominic Moore was asking too much. I've read online that Moore is expecting a lot more than 1.1m. He apparently turned down an offer of 2million for two years last year: "Though Dominic Moore has fit in well with the Montreal Canadiens, he’ll most likely not be back with them next year. Moore was acquired for a 2nd line pick before the trade deadline, and is on a 1 year, $1.1 million. There were reports last off-season that he turned down a 2 year deal worth over $4 million..."

JeromeHP 06-23-2010 12:18 AM

does he want to be the 4th line center ?

because as of now

gomez
plekanec
Eller

4th line center candidate

Moore
Metropolit
White
Desharnais
Lapierre (move him back to center ? not a fan of this but a possibility )

Quarantesix 06-23-2010 12:20 AM

Gomez- Plekanec- Eller no need for him if Eller dont play wing

hogtownhabsfan* 06-23-2010 12:33 AM

I think Pyatt can take his role just fine.

Gomez
Pleks
Eller
Pyatt

Ya...as great as Moore was in the PO's i rather develop Eller and he will be cheaper and I believe Eller is a gonna hit 30-40 points this year depending on PP time...if he plays all 82

Mike8 06-23-2010 12:50 AM

Bottom-six forwards are never 'musts'. Moore should be retained if the salary is right. That salary is roughly $1.5m

LeMAD 06-23-2010 12:56 AM

Moore's a decent player, but he has the reputation of being greedy. And at more than 2M$ per, that wouldn't be a good value.

personally i don't see Pyatt as a center at the nhl level. i like his speed on the wing

who ? Moore or Pyatt ?

i assume you mean Moore...and why will you gives a 4th line center 2 millions a year in a salary cap world (habs already in tough with the salary cap)

Could be. I think a future 4th line of Pyatt/White/Schultz could be excellent, with Pyatt/White interchangeable at C/W.

Better him then Lappierre who was an absolute beast at wing in the PO's.

I like what he brought, but at this point unless we dump salary he simply won't be back. Price and a decent back up will cost about 4 mil. Guys like Trotter, Pyatt, Pouliot, Lapierre all have to get new deals. That leaves about 2 mil to sign 2 more forwards and Moore will cost close to 2 mil.

I don't see him coming back unless a salary is moved wether AK, Hamrlik or Spacek. Simply not enough cap room...plus Eller should battle for that #3 center spot. I can see adding a veteran center for 800k as depth, a guy like Nystrom, Mair, Yelle or Nichol later in the summer.

Evil Ted 06-23-2010 07:19 AM

I would rather have Metro. Cheaper, better on the pp.

crazyd 06-23-2010 07:23 AM

In a heartbeat.

Would bring a lot of depth at center, can pivot 3rd and 4th line. And enables us to use Eller at wing if needed.

Pyatt, White, Desharnais and Lapierre could pivot the 4th line but an effective bottom six needs veterans and experience.

If you can get Moore for 1 mil, it's a no brainer but if the cost is close or around 2 mil plus you have Eller that can play a lot of the same minutes that Moore played last year(strong 2 way play 5 on 5 plus PK) then he is expendable.

You can always add a Moore, Malhotra or Belanger type at the deadline if it becomes a need.

Ohashi_Jouzu 06-23-2010 09:05 AM

I voted to keep him. Guy doesn't cost a lot of money and made a real difference in some key games with his effort and smarts. Keeping him and possibly letting Metro go makes sense to me.

shortcat1 06-23-2010 09:25 AM

I voted 'yes' but, in my mind, the financial consideration is very important.

How much will he want?

Can Gauthier afford his asking price? If yes, great. If no, well, there you go.

I said yes. Eller goes to the AHL and gets the first call-up priority in the case of front line injuries. He may be a natural center of sorts, but NHL experience of that kind, even at the wings would be of benefit to him for now.

Blind Gardien 06-23-2010 09:31 AM

He was good for us and would be a good fit.

We have basically $8M to spend on 7 players to complete a 22-man roster, however.

I would personally budget around $2.5M to retain Lapierre, Pyatt, and Pouliot. Then around $3M for the two goalies.

That would leave us with $2.5M to spend. I would leave $1M of that aside for the last depth forward and some cushion... that could be Pacioretty or White in that spot, or somebody else left over on the UFA market.

That means there would be around $1.5M in the budget for Moore. Or a Moore-like player. I'd try to lure him first with some term-age. Like, $3.3M for 3 years. But if push came to shove, I could accept signing him for $1.5M.

It's not exactly a "MUST", though.

Pax Macioretty 06-23-2010 09:40 AM

If you look at this line-up

Pouliot-Gomez-Gionta
Cammy-Plekanec-A.Kost
??-Eller-S.Kost
Moen-Pyatt-Lappierre

We don't NEED Moore, altough his addition would be a +.

RE-HABS 06-23-2010 09:57 AM

I think Moore could affordable, how about a 2 year $3 million deal ($1.5 million per). He and his agent had to have learned there was no market for his salary demands, and he would rather stay in a big market and a playoff team like Montreal than have to sign a one year deal with a Thrashers or Panthers like team again.
