Interest in Blake Wheeler

Not sure if this has already been said, but Howard Berger said the Leafs have shown interest in Blake Wheeler today on "The Game Plan"

Bobo Fett* 06-25-2010 02:23 PM

I dont think Ive heard that around here so I guess it's a new rumor.

Belak Attack 06-25-2010 02:25 PM

I ****ing hate Berger, but I do like the idea of having Blake Wheeler. Only problem is, he needs some heart, determination, and needs to use his size properly.

Then again, if we trade for him, sooner or later we're going to be the Toronto Flaming Bruins...

Wheeler and our 2011 1st back is MORE than good enough for me for Kaberle.

That's a deal that would be very solid for the Leafs if tehy can pull it off. Get a young 2nd line RW with size and a 1st rounder next year to use in acquiring a top line LW.

I agree, our own picks, our draft.

Do you think Boston will go for it?

KuleminFan41 06-25-2010 02:31 PM

Didn't Boston trade their first rounder?

Ruzicka38 06-25-2010 02:31 PM

Bruins fan here. Toronto would have to take a salary dump to make any deal like that work. Kaberle makes about $4 million and Wheeler will probably come in around 2-2.5 ... which Boston still can't fit. Toronto would have to take Ryder too.

Bet they wouldn't. I think Chia would love to have the chance to potentially have dealt Kessel for 2 lottery picks.

all indications says no. lol

Smif 06-25-2010 02:33 PM

I hated not having our pick this year. It would be great to get our 2011 1st back again!

S2S 06-25-2010 02:35 PM

It would be great to be in control where we pick, not where someone else will pick. Adds too much stress too the games, no good for the heart.

For the Maple Leafs to get Wheeler and their first back, if they have to take Ryder to make the money work then I would guess Burke has to do it. Tough pill to swallow though.

I'd still do it.

S2S 06-25-2010 02:37 PM

If we got Wheeler, we would have the 5th overall from 2004, 2006 and 2008. See the pattern? Oh Garth Snow, where art thou?

probably have to take ryder too though

TMLeafer 06-25-2010 02:44 PM

I think I'd do that deal..

LeafOfBread 06-25-2010 02:46 PM

Not too sure about this, personally I'm not very interested. Of course Wheeler is American though so Burke probably loves him. :shakehead

Wheeler is fast and no-doubt skilled, but he took a step back from his rookie season, and he plays like he's 5'10" instead of 6'4", he rarely uses his frame, and many games he plays lazy without any heart or determination. I'd rather have someone else, and I don't want to send Kabs to Boston...Kabs + Chara = nightmare

Nyax 06-25-2010 02:46 PM

If the Leafs trade Kaberle, they better get more than just Blake Wheeler in return. And no, I don't mean Michael Ryder. I'm really starting to think he won't be traded, and all of the speculation will be for nothing. The first round of the draft will come and go tonight and the Leafs will be spectators.

EternallyLeafs 06-25-2010 02:46 PM

I bet no deal is happening tonight involving the Leafs.
