Seemed like he was highly touted?

redcard 06-26-2010 01:00 PM

Lit up the WHL with over 100 points last year, but not a big guy, listed as 5'10"

GKJ 06-26-2010 01:00 PM

Kings are having one of the best drafts

Ziggy Stardust 06-26-2010 01:01 PM

Teammate of Colten Teubert. Plays center with Jordan Eberle, http://www.whl.ca/stats/player.php?id=25075

He's a playmaker.

Johnny Utah 06-26-2010 01:02 PM

We still need that pure scorer, unless it's Toffoli, a lot of teams are made they passed him up.

KopitarFAN 06-26-2010 01:03 PM

Scoring 100pts in the WHL is no small feat. At 17 no less.

KingsFan323 06-26-2010 01:05 PM

Should've traded up 5 spots to get Kabanov... pure goal scorer with top 10 talent. I'm still liking this draft though, I saw us taking Toffoli in the 1st round and we end up gettin him in the second. Real good job by Dean so far.

Kozun 2.0

In stature, yes. But I think he can be a far better player. He put up 100 points on a mediocre Regina team, while Kozun did it on a loaded Calgary team.

Ziggy Stardust 06-26-2010 01:13 PM

Weal was the first 17-year-old to surpass 100 points in more than a decade in the WHL. He is only the fifth CHL player in the last ten years to record 100 points in his second season of junior eligibility -- the other four were John Tavares (selected 1st overall in 2009), Steven Stamkos (selected 1st overall in 2008), Sam Gagner (selected 6th overall in 2008) and Tyler Seguin (No. 1 ranked).

Another good pick up!

KingsCourt 06-26-2010 01:23 PM

another good pick..tsn mock had him 30th.

David A. Rainer 06-26-2010 01:27 PM

Small kid. I think 5'10 is generous. Not very thick either. Nice kid though. Gracious and happy to be in LA.

AKAY47 06-26-2010 01:41 PM

Man, this guy was a steal

bretzky29ca* 06-26-2010 02:33 PM

I cannot believe he fell to #70, a anymous scout told Rod Pederson(the former Pat's play by play) back in November that this kid was a top 15 pick on their teams board.

Shootmaster_44 06-26-2010 02:45 PM

I hope he lives up to the hype behind him. I just fear he might have elevated stats from playing along side Eberle. I hope he doesn't turn out to be like the guy the Kings drafted a few years that was Crosby's linemate and turned out to be a bust.

I trust DL and his boys.

Wasn't it DL and his boys who drafted Crosby's linemate too?

Not that I am questioning this pick, but it does seem like Brent MacEwen favors the Pats in comparison to the other Saskatchewan WHL teams. So I am hoping this isn't a case of not seeing the forest for the trees.

Was it???

I really thought it was Taylor and his crew. But yeah, I know who you're referring to but can't think of his name.

Dany Roussin was a Dave Taylor selection in 2005 (as was Eric Neilson in 2004).

No love for Ned Lukacevic?

I have personally seen both of these players play countless times. Kozun is and will be a far superior player.

If you don't believe me, check out Weals stats while eberle was at the world juniors. I think that scared a lot of teams off and caused him to slide. By the way, kozun outscored his closest teammate by close to 30 points and was THE reason their power play clicked at close to 30% all year. Call be biased as a hitmen season ticket holder but I just think kozun is going to be a very special player for the kings.

I hope your right.

BigBrown 06-26-2010 04:01 PM

Kozun is two years older though. It's kind of a longshot for any player that small to make it but I gotta believe that at least one of our small guys can push through to the next level.
