COL's Tom Preissing is on unconditional waivers and if not claimed tomorrow at noon, will get bought out by the Avalanche

sounds about right. Avs are not lacking cap space, this saves 900k cash. was expecting this sooner.

What's his salary BTW?

Booba 06-30-2010 11:35 AM

You can also add Jay Pandolfo, Andrew peters, Nigel Dawes and Nokkelainen to the title

Saves the Avs money, Preissing gets a nice big payout and can find another team where maybe he'll get time as a #6 to prove himself.

That contract LA gave him looked ridiculous the second it was signed.

emodwarf 06-30-2010 02:58 PM

Dang. I was hoping for a Brashear for Preissing swap.

You can go sign him now and play him with Redden in Hartford.

Has had zero negative repercussions on the Kings whatsoever.

We've been working hard to erase that summer from our memory bank.

If he can bite the injury bug, I think he'll be able to find a spot in the NHL. Albeit not for the money he WAS making.

He played 4 games for the Avs, and was downright AWFUL in all 4. Like scary bad. He single handily caused a couple goals himself. Granted he was coming back from a knee injury which forced him out of training camp and pre-season.

By all accounts he was pretty bad in the AHL as well according to some Lake Erie fans.

Judging by his stats, he doesn't appear to be playing that bad (in the AHL)

I can't say for sure, cause I never watched him myself in the AHL, but the people who have say he is quite bad in his own end. Sometimes stats don't tell the whole story (especially for defencemen).

A lot of players can put up stats in the AHL. Think Chris Bourque and TJ Hensick, but it doesn't mean they are NHL caliber. Preissing was taking an AHL roster spot and PP time away from the Avs puck moving prospects like Shattenkirk, Cohen, Holos etc.

If turnovers directly resulting in a goal counted as an assist, his numbers would be "awesome".

Hennessy 06-30-2010 04:16 PM

I really wanted him to do well and was glad the Avs got him (probably the only person on the planet who felt that way). I'd hoped that he'd rebound. Well, he didn't. As has been pointed out, he missed a lot of time with injury, then when he finally got on the ice he was just brutal. Like worse than advertised. I still hope he's somehow able to prove himself and have a comeback, but it seems pretty clear that his past success won't be repeated.

boredmale 06-30-2010 04:47 PM

Not sure Colorado would do this but if I was the Islanders I would see if they would trade Preissing(2.75M) for Witt(3M) both have 1 year left on there deals and could use a change of scenery
