Its funny to look at O'Sullivan, he started out with the Wild and never played a game with them then gets traded to LA, Traded to Carolina then ends up an Oiler 2 minutes later, gets traded to Phoenix then bought out.

Whats next?

He would be an amazing career AHLer like Keith Aucoin.

"Florida Panthers make it official: Ville Koistinen is being bought out."

merlin 06-30-2010 06:10 PM

is this a record year for buyouts?

GCM 06-30-2010 06:31 PM

^ I was just going to say usually there's not this many buyouts. Guess a lot of teams are cleaning the slate together.

HemskyToHall* 06-30-2010 06:32 PM

But yeah it must be depressing for POS to be traded only because the team wanted to buy him out right away.

Hard to feel bad for the guy. I never followed him really closely, but from what I've seen, he has all the tools to be a high-tier NHLer, but lacks the drive. I remember when he was with LA, I really wanted the Avs to pursue him. He just dropped off the planet in Edmonton. On a team with as little raw skill as Edmonton, a guy like POS could really shine if he got his act together. Shame it never happened.

And just to clarify, I'm not knocking Edmonton. But POS wasn't exactly buried by elite talent, he could have been a star, but he played himself off the team.

Why would Anaheim waste cap room on buying out Nathan Oystrick? Did he have a 1-way contract?

Then I hope he goes to Manitoba/Vancouver next season with a cheap contract

"buyouts of Jay Pandolfo and Andrew Peters are official."
http://twitter.com/TGfireandice/status/17520913055

Coyotes exercised their right to buyout the contract of center Petteri Nokelainen.
http://twitter.com/mirtle/status/17520687475

No word on Pressing, Kotalik, Dawes, Brashear, Voros and Rissmiller though

caley 07-04-2010 12:45 PM

According to capgeek, Nigel Dawes was bought out

http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=1140

caley 07-04-2010 12:59 PM

Also, it appears Preissing was bought out as well

Kotalik was not put on unconditional waivers, so he cannot be bought out. Dawes has either been bought out or will be because Sutter said that was his intention if Dawes cleared.

Preissing was bought out

in terms of value, no. But this is a record year for dead cap space because of the bonus penalties many teams incurred.

POS problems run a little deeper than a lack of drive, I think he had it pretty tough growing up. He went public with some of his family issues during his last year with the Mississauga Ice Dogs in the OHL, and ended up falling pretty far in the draft.

I think this may be the end of the road for him unfortunately.

this one surprises me the most. He played well for them last year IMO anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Dawes falls into the tweener category.

With Tanguay, Jokinen, and Backlund in the top 6, there's just no room for Dawes up there.

Ergo, not a fit for Calgary.

Is Souray a candidate?

Tambo has said that he won't buy him out or put him on re-entry.

I think this was just a sign to Souray and his agent in order to knock them down a few pegs.
