Sheldon Souray Waived, CLEARED

Edit* - Confirmed!

Perfect_Drug 07-02-2010 11:09 AM

? Seriously?

I have trouble believing he has no value in this league.

Paralyzer 07-02-2010 11:09 AM

And here I thought he'd have some value...Hopefully someone picks him up...

misfit 07-02-2010 11:09 AM

Ryan Rishaugh(sp?) is reporting this on twitter.

Wow...didn't think his value would be that low. The waivers thing seems to have worked out for us so far, I just hope they don't intend on putting him through re-entry waivers.

Jimmi McJenkins 07-02-2010 11:09 AM

The Team to Souray:

"Sheldon, get the **** out"

Bryanbryoil 07-02-2010 11:09 AM

That would be ridiculous. Will close in a few minutes if you can't come up with a source via PM or a link.

"Sheldon souray has been placed on waivers"

Bauer83 07-02-2010 11:10 AM

I have a funny feeling this means we have our eye on a free agent, as this is the easiest way to get rid of salary without having to take any on.

Rumour? Then why not check into it first before starting a thread on it?

Never.

Crazy rumour frenzy day.

Alright there's the confirmation that I was looking for.

McGhostbuster 07-02-2010 11:11 AM

LOL

The guy seriously had no value whatsoever in the league? I find that hard to believe.

Oh well.

WTH? So if he clears we pay him his full salary in OKC?

Jmask83 07-02-2010 11:12 AM

Who will do us an amazing favor and get this clown off our team?

What this tells me is that the Oilers don't badly need the cap space and don't want to be forced into taking on another headache.

Crusty Quinn 07-02-2010 11:12 AM

Ffffff I was hoping we could get something decent for him.

dem 07-02-2010 11:12 AM

I dont get how Souray has no value.
He is GOOD
Not THAT bad of a contract

Klaus* 07-02-2010 11:12 AM

Interesting.

Seachd 07-02-2010 11:13 AM

I'm wondering what the plan is here.

You have to think he'll clear. Then what?

copper_blue 07-02-2010 11:13 AM

Wow, you think Souray would have some value!!!:shakehead

It seems the only way the Oilers could trade him is; if we get an over-paid contract in return.:help:

Makeshift We Are 07-02-2010 11:13 AM

I have a feeling there's more to this... Either a lead up to a trade or cap space for some signings...

Fishy McScales 07-02-2010 11:13 AM

Welcome to the cap world. His contract is just too rich given the risk (injury proneness etc).

That should mean no one is interested in claiming him either, though, since it's better to at least ship out a contract as part of the transaction.

I am the Liquor 07-02-2010 11:13 AM

Twitter is buggered right now. I dont see this anywhere. I call shenanigans.

caley 07-02-2010 11:14 AM

My guess? Oilers have a deal they can make that will see them take back ample salary, so Tambellini thought he'd put him on waivers and see if anyone would take him for nothing in return. If he clears, maybe we see a deal shortly thereafter. (Sort of like how Anaheim put Mathieu Schneider on waivers two years ago, then when he went un-claimed, traded him to LA for a couple players).

s7ark 07-02-2010 11:14 AM

I don't get this at all. There must have been some offers for him and we don't need the cap space. This seems like a spite move by the Oilers imo

They may be trying to terminate his contract outright. I think there is a case that he has breached his SPC by harming the reputation of the team and impairing his own trade value. The CBA requires that he be waived first, but if he clears I wouldn't put it past the team to call for his SPC to be torn up.

I will be watching with interest.
