Modano: "Wings only team to call"

Mike Modano via text message says Red Wings only team to call so far but said, ``if there is only one not a bad one to be.''

Belak Attack 07-02-2010 03:22 PM

Not horribly surprising. Would have been nice to see him go to Minny, though.

DanyHeatleyfnAllstar 07-02-2010 03:25 PM

I was gonna say go to whatever team J.R. is on so J.R. can stop trying to destroy him. But Roenick is gone now. :(

ronnyweed 07-02-2010 03:31 PM

Sign for 1 million

Dogkota 07-02-2010 03:31 PM

C'mon Mikey, do eet

Bubba88 07-02-2010 03:32 PM

I would take him to the Hawks for .8 --> :sarcasm:

slapshots1515 07-02-2010 03:33 PM

Come on!

Shaun_W_W 07-02-2010 03:33 PM

I thought he would be a good fit in Phoenix to ease Turris/other young guy into the top line.

JesusNPucks 07-02-2010 03:34 PM

From a Stars fan POV, with all due respect to a very fine Red Wings organization, it will be a sad day if Modano finishes his career there. Perhaps, that would be the equivalent of Yzerman finishing his career back in the day with the Avalanche.

Marc the Habs Fan 07-02-2010 03:35 PM

Just retire Mike. Do not Emmitt Smith the end of your career.

LickTheEnvelope 07-02-2010 03:35 PM

Poor Mike. Why not Minnesota????

Really? I've always considered Dallas a respected competitor, not a hated rival like the Avs. Is the feeling different the other way?

My Sweet Shadow 07-02-2010 03:37 PM

I wouldn't mind the Leafs signing him for a year or two to fill that 3rd line center spot.

arctic79 07-02-2010 03:37 PM

IMO there should be at least 20 teams that could use Modano in a 3rd line vet. guidance role. The guy is all class.

 That was funny. The feeling is mutual about the Red Wings org. But, a Red Wings jersey might be a little too strange for us Stars fans. :)

It would actually be more like Yzerman finishing his career in Ottawa. I think the initial appeal for Modano was his Michigan roots.

Deen 07-02-2010 03:40 PM

Calgary will take him :yo: We love signing players in their golden age.

zackisonfire* 07-02-2010 03:40 PM

Please let this happen.

last_sd 07-02-2010 03:40 PM

How good is Modano now a days?
Can he be a good 2 way 3rd line center?
Is he still fast enough?
Is he willing to go to tough corners to get the puck? or will he just float?
I just haven't seen him play for a long time

r0bert8841 07-02-2010 03:41 PM

If Yzerman grew up in Colorado and his family lived their, then that would be comparable to this situation.

Woah, woah, woah. Let's not go THAT far.. although I know what you mean. Modano is one of my favorite non-Wings players and I would rather see Modano retire than sign with us, but if that is what he wants, I'll welcome him with open arms. I just hope it doesn't mean Ritola or Miller are gone.

I get where you're coming from. It's just when I thought "Yzerman on the Avs" it seemed like an act of betrayal, not simply just a weird thing, and I just wondered if there was like some secret hatred the Stars fans had for us or something. I mean we've always been neck and neck atop the West, but there's no Lemiuex incident (or comparable) to indicate bad blood.

It's funny, from an outsiders POV I always looked at the late 90's as the Wings and Avs hating each other, and the Stars always just wished they could be part of that. I know the Stars had a great team in 99 and 2000, but they just weren't the RIVAL of anyone other than the Oilers.

Even as a Wings fan, I wouldn't want to see him go out like that. It's almost a slap in the face to the Stars.

Look at the stride and shot. People don't think this guy would be an awesome 3rd line center?
