Wow, far too young. Just terrible news.

One of the absolute toughest SOB's I ever saw play. And he could play a regular shift in your top 9!

McNashty 07-05-2010 04:35 PM

1987-88 | 74 GP 29 G 33 A 62 PTS 398 PIM

I'm quite taken back by this news.

Best t-shirt slogan ever:

"Donate Blood: Fight Probie"

T_Cage 07-05-2010 04:39 PM

I assumed the only thing that could have killed Bob Probert would have been an epic battle with Chuck Norris..

Osminator 07-05-2010 04:39 PM

rickyrod 07-05-2010 05:08 PM

Not the hugest fan of fighting, but Probert and Domi had some great fights. MSG just showed Probert-Domi 1 last week on Countdown, too. Shame.

SupersonicMonkey* 07-05-2010 05:50 PM

Awful news.

RIP Bob Probert.

Probert was by far the most entertaining player I had the privilege of watching as a person who loved tough hockey. Bob came up and was something different then the regular tough guys that were playing at the time of his call up. He was as tough as they came and played in the top 6 forwards in Detroit. He scored and passed amazingly well for a guy that could break your jaw just as fast. I have a very funny story about when I met Probie. In NJ the team stay at the Holiday inn when they play the Devils and we would go wait for them to get on the Bus and get stuffed signed. Lots of people there for Steve Y or Mark Howe but my friends and I wanted Probert. It was freezing cold outside and we were standing for over a hour when James Lightsout Tony the boxer walks out and people swarm him asking for things to be signed, As the crowd shifted a bunch of the redwings make a dash for the bus. We see Probert and start to run for him but he is smoking a bud and looks freaking crazy his eyes and **** just look like a complete nut job, We ask him to sign for us and he said nothing just kept walking towards the bus. My friend nick who is 6ft 2 345lbs comes running out of no where screaming Bob Bob !!! As Bob steps up on the Bus and out of sight. Our heart are busted our Goon idol won't sign, But Nicky is still running and is 2 feet from the bus doesn't see the Curb and fails face first into the doorway of the bus busting his chin and legs wide open and the entire Wings team is laughing!!!!! Someone yells what the Fu## kid? We just say we wanted to meet Probie man thats all. Brad Mccrimmon SP? says come on Bob sign for the kid.
Bob gets up and walks to the front of the Bus signs everything we have and as he is signing his knuckles start to crack open and bleed on our pictures. He said I don't sign a lot during the mid season cause of my hands not cause I am a dick. He talked a few minutes more then left for the game. That was the famous Troy Crowder fights at the Meadowlands. Bob was a animal a Legend and a pretty nice guy
RIP Bob you the best at what you did.

NYRJE 07-05-2010 06:12 PM

I'll never forget the epic battles with Tie Domi.

Captain Monglobster 07-05-2010 06:19 PM

My favorite tough guy of all time. His fight against McSorely where he left him undressed and bloodied really opened my eyes as a kid to the potential brutality of the game.

45 is too young. Rest in peace.

nyr2k2 07-05-2010 06:20 PM
