Get Staal signed and Tell Sather to take the rest of the Summer off.

ryan41 07-09-2010 10:43 AM

great news...now Staal!

The Perfect Paradox 07-09-2010 10:44 AM

Hopefully Sather is working on Staal's contract now. Maybe he negotiated with Girardi first due to his arbitration rights.

Staal then a deal for Savard. I would give up both 2nds and Gilroy for him and pray thats enough

Blueblood 2 07-09-2010 10:48 AM

Two years.......I hope.

WhipNash27 07-09-2010 10:52 AM

Well that was quick. I guess Girardi was smart and knows of Sather's wrath if he goes the arbitration route.

Things usually don't end well for players who go to arbitration under Sather's rule.

Whats the matter? Sather cant negotiate two contracts concurrently?

I guess he cant walk and chew gum at the same time also.

Glad to have Danny boy back.

The guy is streaky as they come on the offensive side of the puck, but is solid defensively. Never really have to worry about him. I hope it's something like 3 years, 8.5 million, (2.83 cap hit). It's probably more, hopefully no more than 3.5 mil cap hit.

NYROrtsFan 07-09-2010 10:56 AM

Good news.

HOpefully it has some length to the deal and it is CHEAP. Hoping for 4 years and around 3 mill. That would be perfect. Girardi has done a nice job improving each year and you need to take these types of chances on guys in the salary cap world.

NYRJE 07-09-2010 10:57 AM

Finally!:handclap: Now get Staal under contract and move on.

i disagree with the first bolded part

which is why i cringed when i read the 2nd bolded part

I'm personally hoping we can pull of something for Gagne. Only on a 1 year deal, motivated to play extremely well for a new contract.

Would bring some scoring depth to a team that has none.

And is a $5.25 million cap hit.

Not to mention durability. 280 games in a row is nothing to sneeze at.

Never said he can't do it. Just making a statement on the reason why he might have signed Girardi first instead of Staal.

We already know that he is having some trouble negotiating a fair price with Staal. He said in another interview that both him and Girardi are parts of our "core" so to speak. When one of your "core" players has arbitration rights and the other one doesn't, it would be pretty safe to assume that a GM would go sign the player who has arbitration rights. Add the fact that Sather is waiting for Staal to lowe his asking price, and it is not as far fetched as you think.

Also, how do you know Sather is only negotiating two contracts? For all we know, he could be taking to Kovalchuk, Frolov or any FA for that matter.
