-   -   Proposal: Would Simon Gagne waive his NTC for the Wings? (http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=797948)

Would Simon Gagne waive his NTC for the Wings?

In return for Dan Cleary and Derek Meech? What do you Philly fans think of that trade? You'd get some cap relief, and Dan Cleary is a solid 20-25 goal scorer if he can get a good season run.

FlyerEra2010 07-10-2010 05:59 AM

Well, it'd give us some cap relief, but I'd much rather just get some draft picks/prospects for Gags. It'd be pretty god damn shameful to give away Gagne in a deal that we clearly lose like this one just so we can afford all the unnecessary people we've brought in, but I wouldn't put it past our GM.

As for the title question, I'd be willing to bet that he would indeed waive his NTC to head to Detroit.

Well Detroit would have to dump some cap for this trade to work, so maybe we could do Hudler instead if that would sweeten the deal for you, but I doubt our GM Holland would do that. I wouldnt mind adding a prospect or high draft pick in this if you guys threw us back a 6th or 7th round pick back.

GirouxGiroux 07-10-2010 06:53 AM

If we trade Gagne for picks/prospects, we'll have room to sign Turco. If we get Cleary back, we won't.

Cleary doesn't do much for me anyway, and Meech? Have you seen our defense recently?

Shadow Flyer 07-10-2010 09:49 AM

Two teams, both of which are up against the cap, do not make good trading partners.

CS 07-10-2010 09:53 AM

That offer kinda sucks.

Yes it's a lowball offer, but I see Gagne as a broken player. Wings don't NEED Gagne, but he could provide them with a ton of help in our second line, especially if Filpulla or Hudler don't step up this season.

Also, Philly NEEDS to get rid of Gagne. When a player like him is practically being driven out, expect to get a lowball offer.

Send us Joakim Andersson and he's yours.

There are only two people that Philly needs to get rid of. The first person rhymes with Schmody Schmelley, and the other rhyming with Schmaul Scholmgren.

Gagne is NOT a broken player...

Amazing how posters undervalue and even insult Gagne's contributions. Probably watched 3 Gagne performances ever. Broken? Just, wow.

JDinkalage Morgoone 07-11-2010 10:46 PM

Broken?

decadentia 07-11-2010 11:52 PM

Everyone wants to trade for him, but as soon as anything of value is asked for in return we're told what an albatross he is...

Giroux tha Damaja 07-12-2010 02:01 AM

Simon would look pretty great on Datsyuk's wing. That would be a hell of a line to try and score against too....

"Broken player" huh...it's one thing to venture on to the trade boards and hear one of your team's most beloved players insulted/belittled. It should be expected when one goes there. It is another thing entirely to have someone post it in your own team's forum . . . . just gtfo man.

RIPRichardsCarter 07-12-2010 02:04 AM

lol@broken player

Beef Invictus 07-12-2010 03:06 AM

lets be realistic guys, now that we've got shelley, we'd be complimenting gagne to call him a hollow shell of a broken down player. such is the wisdom of schmaul schmolmgren

Flyerfan808 07-12-2010 03:34 AM

If I were Gagne I wouldn't mind playing for DET. Don't think this will ever happen because we are both so close to the cap ceiling.

So your telling me that you are willing to take on an extra 2.5 million in salary for a "broken" aging veteran that has 1 year left on a contract and to sweeten the pot, you will give us that cap relief while giving us what you say is a "20-25 goal scorer" with 3 years left on his deal. You will give us this awesome deal even though Detroit doesnt "need" him(even though you came here suggesting the trade) and we pretty much "need" to move him? All this and it's a lowball offer, meaning we might be able to squeeze a 7th rounder out of you too!? Well then, you sold me! where do we sign? :sarcasm:

LEIFey 07-12-2010 07:45 AM

If you don't want to pay up, you can walk away. Lowball offers only work in theory; if a GM wants a player, he knows he has to pay the price to get him.

FlyersCup08 07-12-2010 08:00 AM

Dan Cleary's never scored more than 20 goals. I don't care if he did it in 63 games in '08, the fact that he's never scored more than 20 does NOT make him a 20-25 goal scorer. He's a 15 goal scorer, nothing more.

Even if you don't think Gagne has the offense anymore (which he still does), he's still one of the best defensive players in the game, a Red Wings fan should appreciate that. Gagne's value is much more than what people suggest, I think we should be able to get a decent return, it won't just be a salary dump.

SilkyMitts 07-12-2010 10:40 AM

I dont really know if you can do this - but would it be possible (if both parties agreed) to just throw away Gagne's current contract and then make a new one that includes an extension and a cheaper price...?
:help:

CBA forbids renegotiating contracts, unfortunately. Would be nice if you could reneg your contracts, but then we'd see players like Doughty holding out for a better deal.
