Canucks Sign G Tyler Weiman to 1-Year Deal, $500,000 (Two-Way Deal)

via CapGeek

Guess he's our guy that will split time with Lack in Manitoba. Spent the last three years with Lake Erie in the AHL. 51-57-6 record.

Canucks Sign (G) Tyler Weiman

Here's your Moose goalie, as per capgeek.com:

And there's the starting goalie for the Moose.

I disagree

According to the NHL pronunciation guide his name is pronounced "WIGH-muhn"
http://thenhlarena.com/index.php?showtopic=6673

If it was "WAY-muhn" then his nickname could have been "No".

Wetcoaster 07-11-2010 12:26 AM

Here is his HF prospect profile when he was in the Av's organization:
Quote:

Talent Analysis

Not big by today's goaltending standards, but very quick and agile. Likes to challenge shooters and even when he overplays a shot, has a knack for getting back to make the save. He can win games on his own, but needs to develop consistency on a nightly basis.

so... if lu or cory goes down, would lack or weiman get called up???

Placebo Effect 07-11-2010 12:31 AM

Yes, unless we sign a cheap veteran goalie

If we have no plan on playing that goalie (i.e. short term), then Weiman due to his lower cap hit. Longer term, then we have a problem...:(

Jobal 07-11-2010 06:06 AM

These are the moves that make me appreciate Gillis. Excellent depth signing in case Lack plays poorly.

MG probably wants to have more competition in training camp for those bottom spots. He's $400K cheaper than Schneider, so if he's on par or slightly worse it may be tempting. Does MG really want to pay Schneider $900K to play in 10-15 games? He probably doesn't want to, but he may need to play C.S. in some NHL games to build up his trade value.

Some more info that comes up when you google his name:

"Tyler Weinman appeared at an afternoon bond hearing in a Miami-Dade County courtroom via videoconference, a day after he was charged with 19 counts each of animal cruelty and improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary related to the deaths."

I say we start him against the Panthers.

Wetcoaster 07-11-2010 11:10 AM

If you look at Weiman's talent profile (Post#13) he sounds a lot like Halak and the Canucks new goalie coach (Melanson) did an excellent job with Halak in Montreal.

LickTheEnvelope 07-11-2010 12:13 PM

He has a 100% NHL save %... :sarcasm:

Frank Booth 07-11-2010 01:09 PM

Tyler played behind some awful defense in his three years in Lake Erie, but most nights kept the team competitive and played in the AHL all star game two years ago and was one of the league leaders in shutouts. He was one of the most popular player in Lake Erie, but his options with Colorado were limited. Good pickup for the Moose. When he returns to Cleveland with Manitoba he will hear a lot of cheers.

It would seem he would have a much better chance in Colorado than playing behind Luongo and Schneider in Vancouver.

Only if you can't spell his name.
