The player we need...
Not so much of the good quality UFA's remaining would be a good fit for the habs....but since july 1, I only have 1 name in my head and I don't know why nobody mentions him as he would be the perfect fit IMO with Cammalleri and Plekanec and on top of this he would not be expensive.....
His name is, Bill Guerin. There's some rumors about Paul Kariya signing in Pit to play with Crosby next year....so we can say Guerin will not be back cause he would be already inked.... Imagine we sign Bill for let's say 1 or 2 years(1 would be best after that we have internal options) that would give a much more needed strength to all other lines..... Cammalleri-Plekanec-Guerin Gionta-Gomez-AKost Pouliot-Eller-Boyd Moen-Lapierre-XXX (Darche or White....would prefer White) I think he signs for less than 2-2.5 a year so why not try????:amazed: With this lineup, we can fetch maybe a top 5 in the east. Other options (cheaper or not) could be: Torres,Frolov:shakehead(another Kostitsyn...) and maybe some others. |
I whole heartedly endorse Bill Guerin.
Another option that I think should get more mention that it does would be Ponikarovsky. Young, has size and can definitely play in the top 6. Only thing is Poni would ask for a bit more coin, but I'd look at him... |
Poni over Guerin for me...
|
Poni would be good......but if we compare production for every buck you get my choice would be Bill.
Tons of experience, can play well in the playoffs (Poni???),hit, not afraid of traffic areas,cheap,leadership.... This guy has it all. But I would certainly take Poni over nothing at all;) |
Guerin is not an option, nor is Ponikarovski. Martin want's a group of forwards that can skate, and both don't qualify to that criteria.
I still see Raffi Torres as being the best option there. Considering his last season, I would expect him to sign a one year contract for 2M$ to get his reputation back. And Montreal would be a great fit for him: we need a large winger that can skate, and considering our group of forwards, and the occurence of injuries, I am sure he would get PP minutes. |
Why can't we just let our young players step up? We don't need to get older, we need to get younger.
|
The Pens have arguably the worst wingers in the league yet they did not re-sign him.
No to Guerin, he's slower than molasses now. |

Torres is probably looking for a lot more than teams are willing to give him (either in $$ or term), so he might very well end up settling for a cheap 1 year deal in a situation that would allow him to have a "bounce back" year. but i wonder how well we'd fit that description IF we hang on to A.Kost. Torres would undoubtably end up on the third line, and while playing with Eller might actually be a great fit for him, I don't know that he'd get the pp time or the role (top 6) with us that he'd may be looking for.... guess it depends where his ego is at and what is most important to him. i think he'd be a great fit in our roster, on the third line, playing next to Eller (who is more playmaker than goal scorer). He'd be playing with a talented young guy, and in a role where they wouldn't likely face the opponents best checkers or their best line... great opportunity to get back to the ~20goal range, and look for a bigger deal next year. Cammalleri- Pleks-A.Kost Pouliot- Gomez- Gionta Torres- Eller- Boyd Moen- Pyatt- Lapierre Darche i could live with that, just hope that Eller is solid in the faceoff circle. |
Never thought of Guerin.... hmmm. If his speed is ok, I cannot see him as being a bad short termer.
Poni, not for me. Not enough grit. Torres, if his health checks out... could be a 3rd liner. Is that what the Habs need? |
Did you watch Guerin playing in Pitts ? He played with Crosby, and he really sucked !!!
My preference, from strongest to weakest: - Sign Frolov or Selanne - No signature at all - Sign Marc-André Bergeron - Sign Guerin |
Poni was a rental who was benched in the playoffs and Guerin was ditched by his team despite most likely being super cheap, no no no.
The Habs have 4.7 million for signing Price and a 4th liner, Price I assume will be between 2.5 - 3, and the 4th line guy (prolly an AHLer) will be 500-750, leaving 1m to 1.7m cap space when all the dust settles. This isn't enough to sign anyone of value, the Habs will keep the space as a buffer for call ups, and maybe a rental in February for a playoff run. |
Guerin is a washed-up 40-year old.
He can't score with Crosby, don't expect him to do it with Plekanec! Quote:
Crazy to think of it.. he was arguably the fastest skater in the whole league a few years ago! |
oh god please no guerin
|
Guerin is done. he had the chance to play with Crosby to end his carreer,
I'd rather see Gauthier trade A.K. to Anaheim for Lupul. |
Guerin ?
Why not Gary Roberts hahaha Serioulsly he is too old. I prefer our young players |
lol
lol no. |

LeCavalier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: |
I don't understand why it's always a bashfest when someone don't have the same POV as others.....
It's not because the majority thinks this way that this is totally right. I still think Bill has 1 good season in him.He could not do worse than Kost and is a physical presence in front of the net. Poni and Torres would be maybe better choices but they'll cost a bit more too and we can't afford it. Guerin for a million? I still say YES |
Because our youngsters would do a much better job.
|
Poni? Yes, Guerin? Unless it's extremely cheap...no.
How much you guys think Poni will get? |

He's got for hitting 40t his year. 40 years of age that is.
I mean, Talbot was on TSN saying that "Guerin is a good guy, but we don't need him". If Maxime Talbot doesn't need Bill Guerin, neither do we. |
Does Guerin play D? I think we're good up front personally. Who's spot would he take? It's the D that has me concerned.
