Importance of a good dressing room

I play on a team that I think is the best one yet. We have a group of guys, 6 or 7(including me) that joke around and make our team a lot of fun.

We're not the best team in the league(although our wins seem to come against the top teams), but you can certainly see how the character building translates to the others out on the ice.

It's so much fun.

I have in the past played on a team with a split dressing room. Doesn't make it nearly as fun to play on, especially when we lost.

First thing I thought of when I opened this was you complaining about having a small, dark lockeroom.

But yeah, when everyone on the team likes eachother, I think it can really translate to on-ice success. Players are more willing to stick up for one another, and it's just a much more comfortable enviornment.

The better the locker room, the more fun I have and the better I play. When I stop having fun, I'd just rather not play and it shows.

My team keeps it loose with Karaoke :)
And Locker Boxing!

But yea, A good group of people makes it a hell of a lot more fun.

the team i play on have been playing together since jr. (im new to the area, but got invited)

we drink together, go to each other's weddings/birthdays, do business together, etc.
we are pretty tight knit. thats why we have won 3 of the last 4 championships in our league. we play for each other.

Since I do scorekeeping at the local rink, I visit both locker rooms before each game to check rosters.

Having only been at it a few months, I can tell 9 times out of 10 when a team is about to get dominated, based on a lack of banter in the room.

In a beer league, a good bunch of characters is more than 50% of the fun.

And if there is no fun, ask yourself why you are PAYING to not have fun.

Exactly. If I was just going to skate once a week, I'd play drop in and have more flexibility.
