More Souray

Ek reports that the caps , the sharks and the ducks ..are all interested in Souray. if ek is right about any of this which team could u see the oil dealing with.

MGorgon 07-22-2010 11:14 PM

Nobody. He cleared waivers, the only way he's being moved is if the Oilers take an equally bad/worse contract or someone claims him on re-entry.

Paul4587 07-22-2010 11:24 PM

I can see the ducks being interested if Edmonton took Blake in return. Otherwise I doubt it.

hockeyball 07-22-2010 11:27 PM

I could absolutely see DW going for Souray for the right deal. He's as direct a Blake replacement as you can get, and DW loved Blake.

I still like the Smid, Souray, Cogliano deal we've been bantering around, I think it makes sense for both teams.

jumptheshark 07-22-2010 11:27 PM

Basically ek is repeating every team that has been mentioned previously interested in Souray--accept NYR

I havent heard any rumours involving Smid...care to elaborate?

WJG 07-22-2010 11:50 PM

It actually does make sense for the Ducks and Sharks to go after Souray.

Both teams have an elite PP QB (Boyle and Visnovsky), but not the hard shot from the point.

danishh 07-22-2010 11:53 PM

no-one wants to pick up that salary just like that, but i'm sure many teams are interested if they can send a few million back.

Right now i'm sure everyone is lowballing. At some point edmonton will decide on which dump to take back and trade him.

Yeah, its quite impressive how he's made a name for himself by doing that. It sad though that the credible hockey media dont get nearly as much publicity, simply because they have too much self respect to simply regurgitate everything they hear. He knows that offseason hockey rumours are porn to hockey fans, so he pimps out as much as he can.

Thank god someone clued into that!

Visnovsky has a cannon.

Rickety Cricket 07-23-2010 12:37 AM

Can he still do this?

HA!

Personally I'm happy with Tambo being patient and not just taking whatever comes along for Souray... There are alternative solutions to the problem, and really I don't think it's in out best interest to take back a bad contract just to get rid of him. If it's a contract that ends at the end of next season sign me up, but anything beyond then could hurt the team long term...not worth it.

Yup. If you go through his goals, most are like that.

Me too. I haven't read any of his stories in sooo long.

When I first discovered him I didn't know he was a rumor monger... was before I even found hockey's future. I stumbled upon it by accident when looking for a page that displayed salary cap hits.

We validate all this stupid non-sense just by allowing it to be talked about.

Remember the random hockey rumor creator? Some of them were even more realistic than anything Eklund throws out there... like The Sedin brothers for Crosby, Malkin, Staal and 2 evening dates with Angelina Jolie.

Is eklund stupid? He was on waivers, what a dumb moron.

Teams likely want to dump salary back rather than take his full salary without giving salary back.

Smid won't be going anywhere.

No rumor, just proposal that some Sharks fans like.

If Sharks are going for Souray, they should go for Smid, too, and possibly Cogs. So Clowe, Murray for Souray, Smid and Cogs.

If Smid can't be had, which is totally understandable as he's part of the young core, then (Huskins or Murray) for Souray and maybe Smid (or a pick). Something like that.

Yeah, Smid can't be had. At least not for a package like that.

Curious for what? (Assume Souray is included as Oilers clearly need to rid themselves of him.)

I'm a Ducks/Packers fan. The universe just imploded.

Back on topic, the Ducks could definitely be interested if Edmonton is taking salary back as others have already said.

That would be an interesting call.... $3m for Blake versus $4.5m for Souray. Neither team is expected to be at the cap.

One problem that I forsee is that Edmonton really doesn't need another winger as they've got Penner/Hemsky for veteran leadership, Hall/Eberle who will almost certainly play and MPS/Omark who have a decent chance at it..... plus Gagner, Cogliano, Horcoff, Brule, Fraser and Jacques.... so at least one of the better guys guys is going to be on the wing. Meanwhile, the defence behind Souray really isn't much to write home about.

Problem is that they really don't want to take any roster players back, and I think at the end of the day they find a better deal than 2 years of Jason Blake.....maybe to SJ for Huskins although at $5.4m, that could force a Seto/Clowe out for cap reasons.

Nah, if the Sharks are trading for Souray and the Oilers won't include Smid, then something like (Huskins or Murray) + Mitchell for Souray would be the deal. If Murray, then the Oilers add a 3rd.

The issue with a deal that movies Souray and Smid is that the Oilers really can't afford to move a d-man like Smid. Right now they are lacking 1 top 4 guy (assuming Souray isn't in the line up). If they trade Smid along with Souray they are missing 2.

I don't think the Oilers tack on a player like Smid to get rid of Souray. Although I could definitely see them parting ways with Cogliano if the deal made sense.

Edit: I would do Murray and Mitchell for Souray+3rd though.
