Used the following requirements for prospect qualification:
1) 25YO or under
2) Played in less than 50 NHL games in career
3) No more than 41 games in a single season.

Petrovic, add Hyman.

Went with Petrovic because he was a possible first round draftpick this year, and is younger than Ellerby. Who imo doesn't seem to have it, atleast not yet. Ellerby could be a bust, and have not shown otherwise this far.

Petrovic, add Timmins.

Dadonov. He's got legit 2nd line potential and just had a solid rookie year in the AHL. Ellerby just hasn't developed well so far and his upside isn't all that impressive. He could still turn it around, though. Petrovic is getting a little too hyped at this point in my opinion. Doesn't contribute enough offensively and his defensive game still needs work. Definitely a long term project.

Shore. I feel he's getting overlooked especially with the huge number of prospects we just added. He's a longterm prospect, but he has top 6 upside, and we still really need top 6 centers. He also had a good season last year in the NCAA. I agree with Clint about Ellerby's development being slow and I also agree that Petrovic is getting overhyped lately.

He had an okay season last year. Shore's got good size but I don't see him as a top 6 center. He just doesn't seem to have the offensive acumen to really make an impact as a first or second line guy. I believe he was buried on the depth chart last year under several more experienced forwards, so this year will really determine whether or not he's got the upside we're looking for. Until he really breaks out I don't see giving him a top-10 ranking as a realistic thing to do. We'll see what kind of prospect he is this upcoming season, as he'll be getting more ice time now that guys like Rakhshani and Ruegsegger are graduating.

im kinda surprised that so many are voting for ellerby. i think ive kinda soured on him because i have a lot of trust in deboer and i know deboer isnt that high on him. thats the only reason i can think of to explain why im not so excited about him anymore.

That's true, but he's so close to the NHL right now. I picked him over Petrovic because he has proven that he can play with pros in the AHL. He might even be able to play in the NHL next year if he eases in (ie around 10 minutes a game until he earns PDB's trust).

Surprised about Ellerby votes too. I've heard from many Rochester fans that he sucked in AHL

I'd take Shore, Dadonov, and Petrovic over Ellerby. Unless he breakouts this year, I think he will be in 16-20 range if he is still a prospect next year.

If Ellerby doesn't win a spot in camp, I expect he'll have a regular NHL job by the end of the season. If not, then he would start slipping on the prospect list.

He is still only 22 years old, and some defensemen take longer to develop. I think at this point, Ellerby is a safe bet to be an NHL defensemen.

He's not a longterm project at all. He's an extremely safe bet to be an NHL defenseman, and likely a top 4. His defensive game still needs work? Yeah, of course, he's 18. Does it need a lot of work? No. He's very good defensively, already one of the best shutdown guys in the WHL. He's big, very physical, tough, ultra-competitive, skates well, and he makes good decisions. I don't really know what you're seeing to say those things about him. He probably COULD play in the NHL in 2 years, although it would be wise to give him a year or two in the AHL. He was a 1st rounder in a lot of rankings and mocks, he definitely could have been a 1st rounder if the right team was on the board. He's not being overhyped at all, he's a very good D prospect.

And AGAIN, people, before we get involved in McFarland 2.0, I'm not saying that Petrovic isn't a good prospect or that I want him to fail. Just that some of you need to ease off the throttle on the hype machine instead of resorting to homerism. If we're real about our prospects and understand that not everyone is a blue chip prospect, we'll be much more prepared to see what this team's strong points are, and what we're lacking. The same thing happened with Matthias. He was touted on this board after the Bertuzzi trade as our next #1 center, the next phenom, ready to dominate right out of the gate. It turns out he's a pouter when sent to the AHL and doesn't want to earn his bones, and then struggles to get on the board once given a shot in the NHL.

MR, Petrovic is a long term prospect. He needs work. He's not NHL ready and judging from actual scouting reports, he's still a few seasons off.

yes, but how do you know they didnt pull it out of their ass. the more i follow sports the more i think people just state the obvious and rarely if ever have depth or insight. but who knows, just a thought.

Because, King Panther, they're paid professionals who must have a modicum of credibility or else no one will purchase their product. I put much more weight into the opinion of paid scouts and analysts over HFboards fanboys who likely have never seen a given prospect play, and possibly never even heard of said prospect until after we drafted him. :shakehead
