Source? I don't think we can keep him for 2.75.

GordieHoweHatTrick 07-31-2010 12:01 PM

Hawks let me introduce you to your new goalie for the here and now.. Marty Turco!

Schweiker17 07-31-2010 12:01 PM

im pretty sure that they said if it was under 2.9 they were gonna keep him

who looks like he might have gotten it from eklund....hmmm...maybe not

HawksFan74 07-31-2010 12:01 PM

I think that's just above what the Hawks were looking for. It's going to be a stretch to keep him. Turco for 1.5 or Niemi for 2.75?

Stuy 07-31-2010 12:01 PM

Under 3 mill he stays. Hawks offered him that much and Niemi turned it down pre arb.

SonicY 07-31-2010 12:02 PM

I'm not sure if 2.75 is a reasonable number for them. It's a very slight overpayment... but for a team in as much cap trouble as the Hawks, that is exacerbated exponentially.

I think Turco at 1.5 and a defensemen would make more sense...

It could work, it seems

We offered him $3 mil? Was this before or after the Hammer offer sheet?

EmeticDonut 07-31-2010 12:04 PM

2.75 is pushing it. I say the Hawks walk and sign Turco. Gives more breathing room.

Hawks can't afford him. Only if we trade Sharp, Bolland or Campbell.

But Hawks will not walk away.... at this CapHit, we can trade him for something

The Hawks supposedly offered him a 3 year contract with a ~$2.66 mil cap hit so i'd guess they can squeeze to $2.75 million.

No they offered 2.5-2.75 pre arb. Niemi turned it down.

GordieHoweHatTrick 07-31-2010 12:06 PM

It's so difficult to compare goalie contracts and justify them. On one hand you have Tuukka Rask and Jonas Gustavsson making less than $1.5M and on the other you have Jaroslav Halak making over $3.5M. I guess Niemi's fits right in between, but why?

What about Huet's cap hit?

Stuy 07-31-2010 12:07 PM

Rocky Wirtz said today they are eating Huet's contract. He's not on the team.

Zim 07-31-2010 12:11 PM

Seems like a pretty fair deal, seems like the arbitrator came down in the middle of the two valuations or maybe leaned a bit towards the Hawks.

no to Scott as fulltime bottom D-Men....
not enough room with a 21 man roster

AKAY47 07-31-2010 12:12 PM

Guys, remember this is only Eklund saying this.. Take it with a grain a salt, as per usual, I thought you'd all know that by now..

Stuy 07-31-2010 12:13 PM

Jesse Rodgers on ESPN reporting 2.75 as well.
