[GENERAL] Sweden vs Finland in AHL
Here comes two teams, team Finland and team Sweden, with players that have played in the AHL this season. Which team is the strongest if the would meet in the AHL (with AHL rules, 17 dressed players)? (Note: The teams will play 7 d-men and 10 forwards as Finland don't have more forwards in the AHL).
Team Sweden -------------
Mikael Tellqvist (Johan Holmqvist)
Christian Bäckman - Anders Eriksson
Mattias Timander - Niklas Kronwall
Josef Boumedienne - Pierre Hedin
Mika Hannula - Rickard Wallin - Mattias Weinhandl
Michael Holmqvist - Tony Mårtensson - Andreas Johansson
Fredrik Sjöström - Jimmie Ölvestad - Mathias Tjärnqvist
Team Finland -------------
Kari Lehtonen (Ari Ahonen)
Tomi Pettinen - Mikko Jokelä
Lasse Kukkonen - Mikko Luoma
Juha Alen - Tom Koivistu
Tony Salmelainen - Lasse Pirjetä - Jani Rita
Antti Miettinen - Tomi Santala - Eero Somervuori
Toumas Pihlman - Esa Pirnes - Ilkka Pikkarainen
I'd put my money on Sweden due to a much better group of defensemen and forwards. But there's a big risk that Lehtonen would win the game for Finland.
Sweden looks stronger "as is", but if each player's quality were multiplied with how big a part of the season he played in the A, it would be very even.
Better forwards and dmen on paper, -> Sweden
Most likely to win match -> Finland
With Lehtonen stopping upto 50 shots for fun, all Finland needs is 1 goal from that bunch.. =)
Pretty hard to tell who would win that game.
Not many of those swedish players are full time AHL:ers though. Weinhandl, Sjöström, Johansson, Timander, Bäckman and Eriksson all saw plenty of ice time in the NHL. Ölvestad, Hannula and Mårtensson will be back in the SEL next year.
