Who's the #6 Prospect ?

1) Colin Wilson
2) Jon Blum
3) Roman Josi
4) Ryan Ellis
5) Cody Franson

Pickard is my choice here. Our best in a strong group of goalies.

barrytrotzsneck 08-02-2010 10:13 AM

I disagree that Franson and Wilson should really be considered "prospects" at this point...but...in terms of the poll, I vote Watson.

cjerina 08-02-2010 12:28 PM

I disagree that Mike Santorelli is even worth having on the list at this point based on his lack of NHL production at this point.

Edit: But either way, I voted Geoffrion. Im not sold on Pickard yet, but obviously goalies can take longer to develop.

Im going with the Hobey Baker winner

The Hobey Baker is by no means a guarantee of NHL success. He could just as easily be Brian Bonin or Junior Lessard as he could be Neal Broten or Chris Drury.

New York abstains... courteously.

agreed. I envision Blake Geoffrion ending up a Vernon Fiddler type player in the NHL. Good PK, hard worker, occasional goals amounting to 12-15 over the course of a season.

From what I saw at camp, Budish or Beck are better prospects than Watson at this point. Budish is going to be a beast. Beck loves to shoot the puck and could be the steal of the draft class from last year.

I voted Beck BTW I just love his game

At the end of the day you could make a similar list for any slot in the first round and come up with pretty much the same results. Heck, look at the Heisman trophy and see the busts and amazing talents there too. There is no guarantee any college athlete's performance will translate to the pros. I hope it does in Blake's case.

I didnt know my opinion would get criticized so much. Its all good

LOL, I don't think anyone's criticizing really. I think at the end of day, any award, drafted player or unsigned free agent is a crap shoot. You just never know how they're going to translate. The only think I can say is this, from watching the kids at prospects camp a few weeks ago, I think Geoffrion will be a third line grinder type. I just didn't see the top end offensive skills like I did with other prospects or a kid like Wilson. I realize Wilson was number 7 overall and Blake was a second rounder but at the end of the day, I can only go by what I've seen. Geoffrion will get garbage goals by paying the price in front of the net. His shot and offensive skill set are good but nothing special. His game will be predicated on hustle and heart. I expect to see him at some point but I don't have high hopes for him being a top 6 guy by any means.

What does that mean exactly, I have no idea but if he makes the club and is productive for a good 8-10 years in his roll, I think he'd be a success story as another Hobey Baker award winner doing well at the pro level. Only time will tell as to what his floor and ceiling will be.

Gotta go with Lindback on this one. I think his experience and more importantly success against men -albeit on a larger rink and in a different style of play- trumps Pickard who could barely keep up an .890 save percentage in a weak league. Not giving up on Pickard as a prospect yet at all just think he's got a lot to prove before we slot him in as our #6/top goalie prospect. Just my opinion tho...
