Good job Gillis. Not sure Bill can make the Nucks but a very viable AHL brother combo for the Moose!
|
Very cool. Sweatt is a decent prospect and you can never have enough of those.

What was the deal with Sweatt....how come he didn't get signed by the Leafs? or the Hawks?
|
Interesting to see that he signed here instead of Chicago or Toronto. One city is coming off of a championship while the other could've offered him a better shot at making the NHL faster. I guess the brother thing must've been the deal-breaker? Either way its a no lose situation for Vancouver as we got a decent prospect without having to pay anything (other than money) for him.
|
Doesn't matter now. Although it's funny reading Hawks fans talk crap about Sweatt because he didn't sign with them. I don't care, he was a free signing. If he works out, great, if not it didn't cost us anything.

The guy was clearly looking for a sponsorship deal with Kleenex when he wrote the rant. |

I'm waiting to see the bonus structure on this thing. But i may have been wrong about him, thinking he was a bit arrogant in not signing with his drafted team as you don't see many drafted college players test UFA waters. Many hawk fans believed he wanted an easy and well paid route to the NHL, but i don't think it'll be an easy ride here. But perhaps he really had no allegiance to the Hawks and knew where he wanted to go all along? And no way were the Hawks close to signing him before the trade. There were several articles out saying a contract would not be reached or completed after his college season ended. But whatever way you look at it, we got a good prospect for nothing much. AND we technically can say we fixed the 2nd round of 2007 by getting the player many wanted and touted. Also, nice to see the parade of angry TO fans... another reason to strengthen these supposed rift on HF.. |

The lesson to learn from this is...don't piss off MG. He will rob you blind.

The reaction from Leaf and Hawks fan is incredibly entertaining

It's funny. Most Canuck fans are happy to get a basically free draft pick, but don't view it as much more than that. Then you see Leafs and Hawks fan praying that the guy turns into a huge bust and fails at life in every which way possible. A 2nd rounder has made the crowd angry. This is why Nonis always traded those pesky 2nd rounders away.....
|
It's always nice to add a decent prospect for nothing. From what I've read he has some serious work to do before making the jump to the NHL. It's nice that he has great speed though.
Good move. |
BTW, I think threads involving signings should be .gif-free zones.
|
Hmmm...Moose are going to be a very different looking team this year. Should be fun, and it's always nice to get free prospects. :)
|
Hope he does well with you guys. Not terribly disappointed he didn't sign with the Leafs. I'm happier with Mueller anyway.
The kid can skate though. Should make a decent third line, energy guy some day. |
I can see Sweatt in a 2nd line roll on the Moose...
Something like: Tambellini- Perreault- Shirokov Sweatt- Rosa- Schroeder So for a developement perspective it looks good for him and his big bro should be on the Moose also. |
AHL signing?
