PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. is about to let a bunch of former Bullies become citizens.

Four members of the Philadelphia Flyers championship Broad Street Bullies teams of the 1970s are close to getting their citizenship.

Canadians Bill Clement, Orest Kindrachuk, Bob Kelly and Dave Schultz are going through the necessary steps that will make them American citizens by the end of the year.
Slow news day. Discuss.

I thought Bill would have already gotten his American citizenship by now?

Anyways. Yes very slow news day.

I'm surprised it took them this long considering they've lived there most of their lives.

Nice to know. Dual citizenship is always good.

My Canadian family members who became American citizens were forced to revoke their Canadian citizenship.

My mother, who's American and took on Canadian citizenship only a few years ago, was allowed to keep her American citizenship.

Can we send a few Americans to Canada in exchange?

I have dual citizenship... In the ceremony for US citizenship they make you state that you revoke the citizenship of your native country but its meaningless. The only way to revoke Canadian citizenship is to go to a Canadian court-house and fill out the forms removing citizenship. The US government cannot force you to do this.

I know that is a little goofy

to become an american citizen you have to renounce your original country--but american by birth can get duel--strange

Update:

Bob Kelly and Orest Kindrachuk will take their oaths today. Schultz and Clement in a few months.

Quote:

On the ice, they were famous for hoisting Stanley Cups and raising their fists to knock opponents senseless.

But on Friday two former Broad Street Bullies will be raising their hands for a different reason: to be sworn in as U.S. citizens.

Bob "The Hound" Kelly and Orest Kindrachuk, teammates on the bruising Flyers' championship teams of 1974 and 1975, will be among 27 New Jersey residents taking their oaths of citizenship during a Burlington County courthouse ceremony.

In a team effort of sorts, Flyers legends Dave "The Hammer" Schultz and Bill Clement also hope to become citizens in the next few months.
