Markov's Status

Have there been any recent updates on Markov's timing and status for when he'll return for this season?

TankEller* 08-09-2010 10:38 AM

He should be back in October. The main question is when exactly.

Martin told Felix Seguin of RDS, at his mini-camp in Rigaud last week, that he won't be ready for the begining of the season.

And that's Markov's take on his injury, 16th of july.

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/302691.html

Basically, he said that he doen'st have any date for a return, but he will do his best to comeback as soon as possible.

IMO, I'm gonna say by November.

His surgery happened on May 19th with a recuperation period of 6 months, that puts the most probable come back beginning of November. He'll miss around 10 to 15 games IMHO.

Monctonscout 08-09-2010 11:37 AM

I think from what the team and Markov is saying...best case: 1st game of season Worst case :mid November. I see it being around halfway, around late October(6-8 games).

What I'm more concerned about is no announcement of a contract extension. If ever there was a player PG needs to extend it's Markov.

I suspect he's more concerned with getting the goalie situation settled first. Then he'll have the info he needs to consider Markov.

I would also imagine that they will wait until he's back and healthy. I wouldn't get too excited about it not happening until February.

He started skating again, might be back before the 6 months he was said to be out for.

Kriss E 08-30-2010 11:03 AM

I always expected and still do, that he'd start the season for us.

AntonCH 08-30-2010 11:23 AM

If he's started skating alone
Then there's a good chance that he'll miss no more than 5-6 games

Analyzer 08-30-2010 11:24 AM

Hopefully he'll be good for the home opener this time.

Renholder 08-30-2010 11:41 AM

really great news. Even though I'm not the superstitious type, it wouldn't kill me if he was not there for Game 1 after what happened last year.

Don Meehan, his agent, said last week, that Markov would be back quite probably for the beginning of the season.

The only step he'll be missing is training camp, still, if he started skating, I wouldn't be surprised to see him at camp and maybe just not play games until the season starts.

Markov skating!!!!!

RDS reports Markov as started skating!!! Is he rushing himself because it's his last year of his contract or is he ready?
What do you guys think?

I don't imagine what he is doing now is different from when he was skating while injured during the playoffs. Skating is one thing, playing is something altogether different

shutehinside 08-30-2010 01:47 PM

I doubt he would do that. His agent said last week he expected Markov to start the season.

overlords 08-30-2010 01:47 PM

i share your enthusiasm, but there was already a thread for this homefry.

How can you not love this guy?? Markov should be our team captain....he bleeds Bleu, Blanc et Rouge!!!! He might be a quiet guy, but he's a top 5 defencemen in the NHL because of the way he plays the game.

I hope everything goes well, I hope he has no setbacks in his rehab and I hope he is ready for the 1st game of the season and I also hope the Habs sign him to a longterm deal!!!

Here's to hoping!!

Markov was scheduled to miss at most a month of the season.

Last season Markov healed ahead of schedule and was able to join the team without a problem faster than anticipated.

You can't go ahead and assume every recovery from surgery takes exactly the amount of time predicted.

Canadian_Brewtality 08-30-2010 02:08 PM

his agent said that he had started skating last week
not really news

la25ecoupe 08-30-2010 02:16 PM

please take your time.. do not rush.

Theosis 08-30-2010 02:19 PM

Markov is actually a cyborg :help:

swimmer77 08-30-2010 02:45 PM

It's good he's skating because I think that's a prerequisite to play hockey.

CDNMarty 08-30-2010 03:13 PM

I'm sure the trainers won't rush him back regardless of how far ahead of schedule Markov is in his rehab. The team should be able to survive for 10 games or so on the backs of Subban, Hamrlik, Spacek, Gill, Gorges and O'Byrne. I'd rather they make sure the knee is as strong as possible so he doesn't wind up missing more time later on in the season.
