Should the Flyers start looking at Greiss?

As in the title, should we take a stab at getting greiss now that SJ have aquired nitty and niemi?

I presume it wouldn't take a monster deal to get him from the sharks, and i would take him over boosh any day of the week should the proverbial **** hit the fan.

What do you guys think?

Not our 1st and Barts as you suggested.

The Flyers ARE NOT, repeat ARE NOT looking for another goalie now..... Homer wants to ride it out.

Flyotes 09-01-2010 06:57 PM

It's a GM's job to take a look.

They may be able to pry him away for cheap and improve the goaltending.

JCameron418 09-01-2010 07:00 PM

Trade for Nitty?

:sarcasm:

GKJ 09-01-2010 07:08 PM

It would be an interesting young goalie who hasn't had a real shot. I thought he did as good as he could in the Olympics given he gets limited action. If they get him, it'll be because they claimed him off waivers when one of Leighton or Boucher got hurt.

Garbage Goal 09-01-2010 07:12 PM

It's more likely that San Jose waives him then trades him in my mind.

I'd like him over Boosh and I think he'll become a better goalie then Leighton, but there's not much point to it really.

I heard that about San Jose yesterday...

dingbathero 09-01-2010 07:24 PM

They should bring in John Slaney. HE will save us.

Spongolium* 09-02-2010 06:42 AM

I think greiss is a very good goaltender that has always been in the shadow of nabby his entire career. In the olympics he did just as well as any keeper could of done in his situation. facing 179 shots in 3 games is a tough ask for any keeper in the world.

BringBackStevens 09-02-2010 06:59 AM

Waiver pick up, yes. Trade? No.

CanadianFlyersFan18 09-02-2010 01:22 PM

If Matt Walker goes the other way then sure!!! otherwise, I'd be all over him if he was on Waivers

McNasty 09-02-2010 01:26 PM

Greiss is unproven, if they plan on sticking w/ Leighton I really want to see them get a guy like Theodore, just so we have some semblance of competition because let's face it boosh ain't it.

Leighton/Theodore is an improvement over Leighton/Boosh.

Not by much, but it's something.

Especially considering Leighton has never been a starter for a full season. If he gets hurt they gotta give some time to Bob rather then trot Boucher out there to be slaughtered.

You realize we have Backlund, right? If Leighton goes down then Bobrovsky isn't gonna get a call up. Backlund will. Or at least should.

ShawnTHW 09-02-2010 02:17 PM

What we shouldve done is not look at Leighton to be our starter.

I don't think that's a given. It all depends who performs better in training camp and then in Adirondack.

Giroux tha Damaja 09-02-2010 03:30 PM

Greiss looked like a friggin world beater last year in that game against us at the beginning of the year, and really good in the Olympics. I'm for it...what would San Jose want?

DrinkFightFlyers 09-02-2010 03:36 PM

Yes! Another thread that will soon become 10 pages of talking about how much Michael Leighton and Paul Holmgren suck!

Except Homer doesnt bluff...at all. Or atleast he tries to but everyone can easily tell what he is going to do. In this case you can easily see he is confident in 2 career backup goalies.

Andrew Knoll 09-02-2010 03:39 PM

Greiss is on a two way contract, is he not?

Either way my answer is yes, I would offer a third and a fifth or perhaps a prospect defenseman. He is a decent goalie from the little pro action I've seen of him and that SJ goaltending stable has produced some guys who maximized their talent.

hockeyfreak7 09-02-2010 03:40 PM

Greiss is the next Kiprusoff. Book it ;)

No, he isn't.

infidelappel* 09-02-2010 03:43 PM

Why shouldn't they be looking at Greiss?

Holmgren should be looking at every goaltender who might be available. No matter what, you should always be scouting options to improve your team, in every area.

Greiss is now the odd man out, and could be worthwhile. Certainly worth watching, if nothing else.
