One Change, What Would It Be?

Say you had the ear of the NHL Board and could implement one rule change or a piece of the current NHL, what would it be?

For me it would be simple, make the goalie pads smaller.

Top of the list:
Hybrid Icing!

bungle 09-03-2010 09:56 AM

Instigator rule.

Juicy Couturier* 09-03-2010 09:57 AM

Ban Jeff Carter from the NHL!

HFNHL Commish 09-03-2010 10:01 AM

My first suggestion would be to quit mucking with the game on such a frequent basis. Learn some patience.

Barring that - hybrid icing.

Well then he would just go to the KHL and lead the league in scoring there, duh. And he would not have to get a Russian Mail Order Bride.

CptCannon 09-03-2010 10:19 AM

Instigator.

I'd change the 'clearing the puck over the glass inside your own blueline = penalty' to 'clearing the puck over the glass inside your own blueline = no line change' (like an icing).

Bob Clarke Fan Club 09-03-2010 10:37 AM

The instigator rule easily. Time for some of these ****sticks to be held accountable for their actions out there.

I like this idea, Makes much more sense.

Beef Invictus 09-03-2010 10:49 AM

the NHL is toying with the idea of putting a small yellow line 3 inches behind the goal line. if the puck crosses this line in review, its definitely a goal. i'd implement that. every little bit helps.

Garbage Goal 09-03-2010 11:27 AM

The game is pretty fine as is so either just get rid of the trapezoid or bump the shootout up to five players instead of three.

Beef Invictus 09-03-2010 11:28 AM

i already know what Jester is going to say, and i agree with it.

facts 09-03-2010 11:29 AM

first and foremost I like JVR and Briere, but my change would be the lottery balls, we suck the whole year and can't even win the lottery. Imagine Kane here, we save money and use it elsewhere and he is not sticking it up our a$$ in the final.

JXC 09-03-2010 11:44 AM

Cameras or RF sensors in the goal frame.

GoneFullHextall 09-03-2010 11:48 AM

get rid of the shootout.
play one 20 minute OT. if its still tied the game ends in a TIE!

Juicy Couturier* 09-03-2010 12:12 PM

Overtime:
3 minutes: 4 on 4
3 minutes: 3 on 3
3 minutes: 2 on 2

If no goal it's a tie. It would make for some awesome hockey and much more exciting than a shootout. 1 on 1 with a goalie is cool and all but can you imagine Crosby and Malkin out there against Ovechkin and semin? It would be a shootout with someone actually chasing you. We would see some sick goals.

Bingo!

DeadPhish5858 09-03-2010 12:39 PM

Take out the shootout. I'm fine with ties.

Juicy Couturier* 09-03-2010 12:39 PM

Also, fire Buttman.

And then Zero points for a tie. Problem solved. Those teams would kill each other in OT to get the 2 points.

I would shorten it to 10mins, but agree. Keep shootouts if you want but they only count as a tiebreaker in some format, but no extra points for a shootout win.

That is one of the worst ideas I have ever come across, I hope you are joking. ;)

Fix all of the pricing.
Lower level seats $10, Upper level seats $5. Then make selling them for more than twice face value very illegal (and see to it that it's enforced).
Then, beer is $4, sodas are $2 (there's still profit there) and all other concessions are reasonably priced.
Center Ice is $99 for the season, and you get every game. Not 40 out-of-market games per week. Every game. And no blackouts -- your favorite team 82 times per season and every playoff game. There's no reason they can't put on Atlanta at Anaheim when they meet (no TV feed is a lame excuse in my alternate reality).
Jerseys back to what they cost to make. Nah, we'll let the team make some profit by selling pros for $100 and replicas for $45.

Sorry, I fell asleep. What was the question?
