Should SFY try and acquire Souray?

With Souray being asked not to attend Oilers training camp, it is highly likely that Souray is put on re-entry waivers or traded. Should Yzerman be interested?

"We've been trying to move the player for some time obviously," Tambellini explained to reporters at the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. "Sheldon has expressed strong interest over a long period of time that it's best for him to move and we're going to try and help him with that. I couldn't get that done prior to this camp.

On re-entry waivers I'd say it's worth a shot.

The Yzerplan 09-14-2010 11:25 AM

5.4M cap hit and a injury prone.

No thanks

I say...

2.7 cap hit on re-entry waivers

A bit further down the initial link:

I'll pass.

Pass...

Wow, what a mess in Edmonton. What's the trade value of Souray, a 20+ goals scoring defender when healthy, by now?

If he was on a one year deal I would say yes. I would much rather him than Jones.....Just dont think it would be smart to swallow that salary for longer than that though.

Can I chose multiple ones?

Taking that a step further. Boucher has said that he will dress seven defensemen. So depth wise its:
Kubina
Ohlund
Hedman
Lundin
Clark
Jones
Roy/Wishart/Mihalik

IMO Souray on re-entry waivers at about a 2.5M cap hit, if he is truly healthy and ready to go, would be a great pick up for our defense.

If he wants to prove his doubters wrong then I'm all for him being claimed on re-entry(yes contract is big but it comes off the books right when we need to resign Hedman). If he wants to be nice when things are good and then cancer when they're bad I say let him rot in Oklahoma.

I don't mind him and I think he'd be productive here, but I don't want him taking ice time from Hedman so no.

Kubina-Souray
Ohlund-Hedman
Lundin-Clark
Jones/Wishart
??????
Doesn't look like he would cut to much into it. Besides shedding a few minutes from last season would probably help Hedman more than it would hurt him.

keep in mind reentry waivers would keep him at half price for the 1st year of his contract only, after that the team would be responsible for the whole salary (next season)

FF de Mars 09-19-2010 07:37 PM

Does Stamkos play as the point shot, right to the PP QB ? If not, picking up Souray could improve your Power Play. He's a weapon, when feeded. Nice win for the Buccs today ! And go Manning go haha. The Manning Bowl II.

That is incorrect. The remainder of the contract is split 50-50

Souray and Stamkos play the same position on the PP. Who knows if that would remain the case if he were acquired, but I wouldn't advise moving Stamkos. That is the position that he dominated the league from.

Then I agree with you, TB shouldn't acquire Souray. I'd love him in Montréal, through re-entry waver, though. But hey, I'll be rooting for TB too.

I never said we shouldn't acquire him ;) I would love to have him at half cost. I like what he brings

fcpremix88 09-20-2010 12:09 AM

I don't think he'd complete the team, but trading for him wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion. He'd actually be a point-producing defenseman on a team that's lacked one since Boyle left. He can be used as a duo on the point with Stamkos, or he can be a very dangerous threat on the 2nd unit.
