Lecavalier or Richards?

Leslie Treff mentioned there might still be a trade for a #1 center despite the emergence of Stepan. If you had to choose between either or Lecavalier or Richards, which one would you pay the price to get?

I would take Stepan. What do we have to trade away to get him?

FromTheSide 09-25-2010 12:31 AM

Assuming by some voodoo magic stepan is in the AHL?

Richards.

lecavalier's contract is a circus joke. Richards only has one year on his.

I am a Ranger 09-25-2010 12:35 AM

Both players are pretty young, but i would take Richards.

hpNYR 09-25-2010 12:44 AM

Contracts aside, I like Lecavalier's game much better than Richards'

darko 09-25-2010 12:45 AM

Neither. Richards is a free agent after this season and LeCavs contract is pretty bad.

Would you want Sather to sign Lecavalier to a contract running til 2020 for 7.7 per year? Well as stupid as that would be, trading anything even remotely significant would be even worse.

Richards is a good player but I'd wait til the offseason to go after him and wouldnt give him more than 6 mil. Maybe someone will give him more, maybe hes worth more, but it wouldnt be the smartest thing for us.

Boom Boom Geoffrion* 09-25-2010 12:55 AM

Pass on both..

Vinny's contract is a joke. Unless Redden was going the other way, hell no.

Richards will be a free agent July 1st. I'd rather hold on to guys like Callahan or Anisimov, and just target him if we have the cap space necessary. I'd hate to see us give up assets for a guy that could potentially leave the year after.

I'd hate to see us in a similar situation as the Devils too. Trading for a guy, then having to re-sign him at all costs because you gave up so much for him in the first place.

We're still in Cap Hell, by the way. Not sure how we can afford either player right now. Frolov's on a 1 year deal. I already want him re-signed. Dubinsky, Callahan, and Anisimov are RFA's next year as well. Rozsival and Drury have 2 years remaining on their contracts. Redden is still under contract.

We can't afford either player right now unless one of the 3-headed cap monsters is headed the other way.

Trading Rozsival makes absolutely no sense. We need him in our top-4. Our blue-line is one of the youngest is the league, and absolutely need a veteran back there that can log big minutes. I doubt we'll be getting back a competent dmen from Dallas in a Rozy+/Richards+ swap.

Redden can't be traded. Drury has a NMC. Gaborik and Lundqvist are basically the team.

Pass on both Vinny and Richards, for numerous, numerous reason's. Trading for them is a terrible idea, unless the come really cheap.

If I absolutely had to pick, Richards, and it's not even close.

However, neither would be the optimal situation.

Radek27 09-25-2010 01:55 AM

Vinny all the way.

Can we nominate a post of the day? Because this would win.

Haha, this made me laugh too. Probably a typo, but still funny.

If I had to pick one of the two, I'd take Richards just because Vinny's contract is ridiculous. I would rather have neither of them.

Inferno 09-25-2010 02:52 AM

Lecavalier...always been a fan of his.

AJRanger 09-25-2010 03:53 AM

If it had to be one or the other then I'd take Richards, but I'd prefer Stepan to get his chance.

King of cool 09-25-2010 04:11 AM

I'd go with Lecavalier, but I doubt he's still available, a lot of things have changed in Tampa in 1 year...

Chimp 09-25-2010 05:25 AM

Absolutely neither.

One has a really bad contract and is an impending UFA, big pass. The other has just a bad contract. We have already filled up our quota by a fair margin.

bettercallstaal 09-25-2010 06:09 AM

Well we can't afford either player at their salaries. It would also take way too much to get either player so I just can't see us getting either player at this point.

z1co80 09-25-2010 06:45 AM

Neither are worth giving up the assets required to get them. I want to see how our homegrown players can fill this roster throught the next few years.

Dont want to get drawn into the Brad Richards sweep stakes next year either because you just know Sather will throw some ****ing retarded contract at him. Hello Drury, Gomez and Redden.

pld459666 09-25-2010 07:08 AM

Vinny. Like the way he plays the game. Had an off year, he's entitled to it

DubiDubiDoo 09-25-2010 07:30 AM

I love Vinny, I think he's a beast, but there is no way he's worth 7.7 million a year until 2019-2020, he'll be 39 in the last year of his contract.

eco's bones 09-25-2010 10:04 AM

I have to go with neither at least for now. Vinny is still a legit 1st liner but his last two seasons have been subpar and IMO at this point he's not an elite player. With 10 years left on his contract at a whopping $7.7 mil cap hit a season that's way too much. I can see the Lightning trying to move him and I can see him waiving his NTC as he's second banana there now behind Stamkos. Have to wonder too how good he's going to be when he passes 35. That cap hit of his is even going to be serious then.

Richards will cost a lot in players/prospects. With one year left on his contract he's going to demand a lot of money. Giving up something serious I'd want a lot longer guarantee for my investment.

And to be honest Stepan might be able to step in and give us at least a passable version of a 1st line center immediately. Better to stay the course and see how things go for now.

beastly115 09-25-2010 10:07 AM

I like Vinny's game a lot. I like him better than Richards as a player but his contract is a joke.

That being said, I'd go with Richards.

Btw, why was Vinny chosen for this poll? I haven't heard any rumors that he's available...

Hit the nail on the head. We'll sign Richards after this season. Ultimate "torts guy".

I guess you don't live in Montreal.

BlueshirtBlitz 09-25-2010 10:11 AM

If you look at any of my pasts posts you'll notice i'm huge on Brad.

But with the emergence of Stepan it really puts doubt in my mind that in a few years that trading/maybe even signing Richards would be a good idea.

Stepan
Anisimov

as our top 2 can wind up being incredibly good as they mature.

However, even though I'm not as big on it as I was before..

Richards
Stepan
Anisimov

as our top 3 also looks good too, no?.
