On The Eve Of Finland

Russo's new blog, which has a lot of good nuggets about the present and future.

-The team had a good, gritty practice today which personally is something that really needed to happen after how the third period and overtime went.

-Someone's getting cut tomorrow and Russo would be shocked if it's Falk.

-Barker, Latendresse and Zidlicky all look like they will be ready for the season opener.

-St. Paul is further becoming Pittsburgh West as former coach Michel Therrien is now a part-time scout for the team. Of course, this probably evens out given how the Rangers have half of the Wild organization from 2008.

And lastly, the schedule for the team in Finland

I would think so...they replay night games the following afternoon, so you'd think they'd get replayed during primetime hours.

I know this is prognostication... but...

In his other article, Russo states that Therrien wants to get back into coaching. Does this make Richards slightly more motivated to not noob it up behind the bench?

I have tickets for the preseason game against Ilves on Monday and for the game against the Hurricanes on Friday. Too bad they were not able to get Mikael Granlund and Jere Sallinen into the preseason game roster (donīt know the reason - Ilves has at least suggested that to increase the interest for the game outside Tampere area).

I hope not, although it would even things out after Richards being one of the potential replacements for Therrien.

Sauna is basically this:

It can also be this: (the Hartwall Areena and Jokerit owner has his own sauna in the arena where Wild is going to play):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_sauna

Sometimes men and women go to the sauna together, sometimes not. For someone brought up in Finland, the rules are instinctive but they are difficult to put into words. Depending on the size, composition, relationships, and the age structure of the group three basic patterns can emerge: Everyone can go to the sauna at the same time, men and women may take sauna separately, or each family can go to sauna separately. Mixed saunas with non-family members are most common with younger adults, and are quite rare for older people or on more formal occasions. It is common for teenagers to stop going to sauna with their parents at some point.

In the sauna it is a faux pas to wear clothing in the hot room, although it is acceptable to sit on a small towel or pefletti, a disposable tissue designed to endure heat and humidity (it can be mandatory in a public sauna, such as at a public swimming pool). While cooling off it is common to wrap a towel around your body. Though mixed saunas are quite common, for a typical Finn the sauna is, with few exceptions, a non-sexual place. In Finland "sauna" means only a sauna, not a brothel, sex club, or such

Fel 96 10-03-2010 10:19 AM

here are some pics (actually 46) that my Finnish friend took during the Wild practice.

http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...14/NHL%202010/

for those who's wondering, PMB made the trip but won't play any game. (kinda obvious eh?) Also, both PMB and Lats wore non contact jersey. Lats should play Thursday though.

I though lats was doubtful for both games? I just got that impression somewhere.

Fel 96 10-03-2010 10:38 AM

He will obviously not play Monday but like I said, he should be able to play Thursday.

Hi guys, I'm flying to Helsinki to watch Friday's game and just wondering - does anyone know if photography is prohibited for those who don't have a media / press pass? It'd be disappointing to take the system camera with for nothing.. :(

From my knowledge, that would be a negative. I always see people with high end photography equipment going to the games here in the cities, and many other locations. I just don't think you can get up on the glass and take the pics without creds during it. But I'm not really sure....

Thanks for your message. Yeah I was just planning on taking the photos from my seat since I'm in the first row and I've heard that last year in the Helsinki NHL games photography was ok, but that in NA photography may not be allowed..
