Michael Grabner, Andrew Peters

RT @OnFrozenPond: Michael Grabner has been waived by #Panthers ... Goes to Rochester if clears

Looks like it wasn't such a terrible thing for the Canucks to give him up/add him in the Ballard trade.

Edit: RT @kausatoday: Florida's Andrew Peters and Michael Grabner among today's NHL players placed on waivers.

Tiranis 10-03-2010 09:51 AM

As expected... can't believe anyone thought otherwise. Somebody will pick him up though.

Joey Moss 10-03-2010 09:51 AM

Hello Edmonton. :yo:

Timmy 10-03-2010 09:53 AM

For folks who are anxious to see their team pick him up, keep in mind he takes up a roster spot, and he may not be ready to play regularly at the NHL level yet.

Leaf Rocket 10-03-2010 09:54 AM

good god, please let it be toronto...please...we need this kid and i love him so much.

billysbreakdown 10-03-2010 09:54 AM

What a joke of a franchise I support. This is a nightmare......

If the Oilers were to claim him it would probably mean Eberle starts in OKC or Cogliano gets traded or one of the 3 players starts on the 4th line.

Hall - Gagner - Hemsky
Penner - Brule - Cogliano
MPS - Horcoff - Eberle
Reddox/Stortini/Mac - Fraser - Grabner

Don't mind this at all.

Hampe 10-03-2010 09:56 AM

Wow.

Well, it's obvious someone is going to claim him.

Shadow Flyer 10-03-2010 09:56 AM

For some reason, I thought Grabner was waiver exempt. If that's not the case, I'm pretty shocked that Florida would take the chance to try and get him in the AHL at this point.

Panthers sign Peters

Panthers waive Grabner

Panthers rock

Andre Benoit Bawls 10-03-2010 10:01 AM

Wow, I'd expect they could at least get a 2nd or 3rd for him. It'l be interesting to see how quickly he is snapped up

GKJ 10-03-2010 10:02 AM

We've seen people in the past who everyone was sure would be claimed, and end up clearing, but I don't know how Grabner doesn't clear, even just to try to get him through waivers themselves.

The Fear Boners 10-03-2010 10:02 AM

Most teams will have to dump one legit roster player at this point to make room for him, so I won't be terribly surprised to see him pass through.

Leafs1331* 10-03-2010 10:02 AM

oh man he better make it through edmonton, because I would think Burke would most definetly take him

Nonis was with the Canucks when they drafted him, so there may be a slight chance. Although I think the Maple Leafs are up against the roster limit for contracts.

cc 10-03-2010 10:04 AM

I'm a bit shocked by this development. He looked like a very promising young forward on the Canucks. He just needed to be more consistent in his effort.

can't we just drop mitchell the waivers?

Mizral 10-03-2010 10:05 AM

I can't really understand why the Panthers would waive Grabner .. did he play that poorly at camp?

The kid is very young and doesn't know how to play two-way hockey yet. That said he is still a dangerous weapon offensively and has a fantastic shot. This one is sort of shocking as I was expecting big things from this guy over the next few years.

Falconator 10-03-2010 10:05 AM

Wow that's hard to believe they didn't even give him a shot? So the trade ends up being a first round pick and Bernier for Ballard?

Yeah, but it only opens up a contract if he's picked up by another team.

RoyBoyCoy 10-03-2010 10:07 AM

What the ****?!

Well someone's going to claim him clearly

He was -6, 2 scoring chances, 0 points, in 4 or 5 pre-season games. Absolutely brutal as far as I've read.

And as for his offensive potential — he hasn't even dominated the AHL yet. After three seasons. Guys like Jannik Hansen, Jeff Tambellini, even Kevin Bieksa (defenseman) have shown more scoring ability after one or two seasons in the AHL.

Still a pretty decent haul, but this really surprises me. Weren't some Nucks fans saying Grabner was going to potentially start top 6 this year before he got traded? He had a great stint up IIRC
