Kings Sign Jordan Nolan to 3 Year Deal

From Helen's latest tweet:

"For Kings Muzzin will wear 6, Schenn 10, Loktionov 12, Clifford 13, Lewis 22. Also, kings signed Jordan Nolan to 3-year deal"

RonSwanson* 10-05-2010 03:05 PM

Nolan has a lot of upside. I could see him on the Kings in two years.

Can he fight, or is just really large?

Think Ben Eager. He can do more than just fight. He's a very unpleasant player to play against and I concur with what was stated above, he could be on the team within a few years.

Clifford will eventually find his place as the 3rd line LW, leaving an opening for Jordan Nolan to take. The Kings are going to be one tough and intimidating team with their combination of talent and grit.

Based on the one fight I saw him in (at Colorado early in the preseason), he throws bombs.

Not the best quality video (using my phone, sorry), but you can get a decent idea of his style.

I agree that he is the type of player who can replace Clifford on the 4th line in a few years.

Johnny Utah 10-05-2010 03:25 PM

I keep saying this but Nolan is probably the 2nd best fighter in the entire Kings organization right now. He is a big, mean lefty who had a lot more wins in junior than guys like Clifford and Clune...Nolan also got a huge suspension a few seasons back. He is a mean dude like Clifford.

RonSwanson* 10-05-2010 03:31 PM

Imagine having more than a handful of guys on the team that can and will drop the gloves, as well as play a regular shift?

These guys could all be on the team in a few years:

Westgarth
Clifford
Simmonds
Teubert
Nolan
Clune
Greene

hauspaint 10-05-2010 03:40 PM

I tried to put some of his fights but I can't seem to get the link going... wtf?

Muzzin can drop them too....

Signing Nolan is a very big deal for us in a season, two at the outside. Great day for our team's long term prospects. Heavy hitter to say the least. He has an interesting twitch too.

WTGDL.

He just needs to remember to stay away from those Sault girls, they'll cut ya.

very good signing

I respect coach Ted Nolan a lot. I knew he had a son coming up through the ranks; real tough kid that can play too. Glad our scouts discovered and drafted him, even better now that he's earned a contract.

This is not the 70's its 2010 - recent cups go to Detroit, Pitt, and Chicago they don't fight. Penalties are set in a way instigations puts you shorthanded. If you look around the league speed is the premium not bulk.

DL is old school he's looking for toughness while everyone else is looking for speed and puck movement.

If all those guys are on the team we won't make the playoffs but we will lead the league in penalty minutes.

While I agree with you that speed is a massive need for us and is a truly priceless commodity when it comes to cup contenders, it is only equal to team toughness. It takes both and each team that has won the cup since the lockout has had them in equal amounts.

You simply can't ice a finesse team and win the cup.

Period.

Totally agree, a big fan of this kid. Awesome news!

Ha that is a ridiculous quote. Doughty and Loktionov and Kopitar will be very happy and have tons of room with all those guys.

The Flyers were second in fighting majors last season and made it to the Cup Finals. There's no correlation between fighting and success/lack thereof. We need this team to get tougher considering how we fared against another tough team. That does not mean toughness equals wins though, because the last two seasons Vancouver has been too tough for their own good against Chicago, and it's led to their demise.

In going against teams who play like Vancouver, it is in our best interest not to get pushed around. We don't have depth and talent like Chicago last season, who, if Vancouver pushed them around enough and took out one of their players, another one could step right in and fill the void.

Johnny Utah 10-05-2010 08:27 PM

Vancouver is icing a 4th line of Guillaume Desbiens-Bolduc-Tanner Glass to start the season. Desbiens is an AHL tough guy, Bolduc can throw them and we all know Glass is a middleweight. They will also have Alberts, Torres, and Bieska.

Fat Elvis 10-05-2010 08:44 PM

Nolan is needed in Manchester to add toughness. Westgarth is in LA, who is going to be Manchester's policemen? Nolan is needed.

Glad to hear Jordan earned a contract. He took a lot of heat from the fans here in the Sault but he was always one of my favourites the last couple of years.

I would say he's basically a poor man's Wayne Simmonds. He's probably got an edge in the fighting ability on Simmonds but every other aspect of his game is probably a notch or two below, but they play a similar style.

Also pleased to see Muzzin make the cut to start the year with you guys. It's awesome to see all his hard work paying off for him!

Reaper45 10-05-2010 11:06 PM

I said it a while ago but in a few years I can see our 4th line being Nolan, King and Lewis.

Why did he take heat?

Nolan has been my man crush since rookie camp. Kid can skate, shoot, pass, hustles, hits AND you cannot teach that kind of size. A certain individual who writes about the team and fancies himself knowledgable about the Kings stated that he will never make it...boy, I look forward to dishing that plate of crow and waiting until every bit of it is done.

I disagree. If you are playing a team that has that many players willing to drop you, you give that team room and respect and don't take cheap shots.

Those guys I listed are not Ivanans. They can skate regular shifts. That's the difference.

Just because the Red Wings don't fight anymore doesn't mean it's a bad thing.
