Silly ESPN and their Crosby Affair

So the opening image on ESPN's main page is Crosby vs. a generic Flyer, wearing a jersey we no longer use anymore...REALLY?, can't even toss an image of Mike Richards in there?

This is just silly...really silly...

Don't get too offended...it's ESPN after-all. They're a damn joke.

Although it is the most ridiculous, unprofessional thing I've ever seen. What an embarrassment.

FreshPerspective 10-07-2010 01:16 PM

ESPN is the equivalent of Howard Eskin..they don't know nor value hockey.....

The fact that the NHL has 1 superstar while "all others are #2 or lower" (in the words of The Phoenix from Mystery Men) should not be a surprise to anyone since the lockout.

that was the year we were too tight against the salary cap to afford names on the back of the jerseys

This really made me laugh. Thanks.

The Penguin attention makes me laugh so much sometimes, Down Goes Brown, the Leafs blogger put up a hilarious Eastern Conference preview...I almost fell off my chair when I read the bold...

For the Penguins:
Pittsburgh Penguins
The good: Thanks to their participation in the Winter Classic and the accompanying HBO reality series, will finally get some media attention.
The bad: Have shown an impressive ability to win the big game, but realistically can't rely on playing Washington every night.
What to watch: Whether Sidney Crosby can find chemistry with his first line wingers, two cardboard cutouts of Sidney Crosby.

I like where this thread is going, sticky anyone?

who the **** cares

FreshPerspective 10-07-2010 01:58 PM

Let the ribbing begin..it will make the Flyers vs Pitt game at the Wells Fargo Center that I will be attending next Sat that much better :yo:

ESPN is really no different from NHL.com. If I didn't know better, I would be under the impression there were only 2 teams consisting of 2 players in the entire NHL.

Needless to say, I no longer visit either site.

dbr2 10-07-2010 02:06 PM

**** the rats.

Lets see what happens when the teams wheels falls off in a few years. What are they gonna do then, tank and get 1sts again? I mean how many times can you rely on one man to save an entire organization? Once Mario and now Crosby.

Welcome to cheap marketing. Hockey in the US is on life support and it could use every bit of casual attention it can get.

Bingo! Even living myself extremely close to Quebec (about an hour from MTL) No one gives a crap about the NHL in this country.

Whoa, please don't confuse Crosby and Mario, he is no Mario. I would attribute the recent revival to having 4 or so top 3 picks in a row.

CS 10-07-2010 05:06 PM

For historical purposes, Crosby should be the player without a name plate seeing as how freaking broke the organization was before he arrived...

It's symbolic.

You're mad that its not a Richards vs. Crosby faceoff? That they're wearing the wrong jerseys? I personally don't care. It's ESPN what do you expect?

we should be happy they didnt spend millions to make a computer animation of a 300 foot tall crosby crushing the flyer's nameless, faceless linup with his schlong.

at least theyre showing some restraint.

Yeah... but like now that you posted that....

This really bothers me and I'm sure you've noticed my avatar before finishing this sentence.

Pwood 10-07-2010 05:32 PM

It really does stick out like a sore thumb. It's pretty embarassing. Looks like some generic artwork for an early hockey video game.
