Christensen hurt. Drury & Gilroy in, Sauer sits.

- Erik Christensen, who hurt his right leg and played just two shifts in the third period of the Rangersí 6-4 loss to the Islanders Monday afternoon, is not on the ice.

However, captain Chris Drury, who broke his left index finger on Sept. 20 blocking a shot in scrimmage, is skating with Alex Frolov and Marian Gaborik as he prepares for his expected return to the lineup in Fridayís home opener against the Maple Leafs.

- Itís tough to tell as seven defensemen are rotated through drills but it appears Matt Gilroy might join the lineup Friday in place of Steve Eminger.

Excellent. Always good news when two players are being replaced by two better players.

Eminger has no place in this lineup. EC should be fourth line center at best.

Not saying Drury should be first, but he deserves to be in this lineup a lot more than EC does.

I hear you with Eminger/Gilroy, but the tone of the post almost makes it sound like Drury was benched for EC and now vice versa.

HAPPY HOUR 10-13-2010 12:30 PM

It was Drurys finger on his left hand right??

beastly115 10-13-2010 12:30 PM

Drury centering Gabs and Fro? Not much of an upgrade...

The Dark Passenger 10-13-2010 12:31 PM

If Drury is taking Christensen's roster spot, I would hope they move Stepan up to the first line rather than Drury.

Wraparounds 10-13-2010 12:35 PM

I want to give Drury a shot up there. Let's see how it works.

Unless Drury goes back to his net-traffic/garbage goal days...then it might actually be effective.

TheHotRock 10-13-2010 12:41 PM

I can see drury thriving in this role. two super talents can do all of the cute things and he can just park himself where there's open space and clean up the trash.

I'd love to see "Avalanche Drury":

I absolutely agree with this. Drury could really do well on a line like this.

Let him play on the PP and PK as well. I think this team is set up in a way that Drury can have a huge year...it almost feels dirty saying that.

nyr2k2 10-13-2010 12:51 PM

Glad to get Drury back. Not sure where he'll play, but I'm sure it will work itself out.

Awesome if Eminger sits and Gilroy gets back in. How it should be all along.

And Erik Christensen is?

Christensen is absolute waiver wire garbage. Drury is a MUCH better all around player, and will produce the same offensively as a dud like Christensen with 2 big time talents around him.

Florida Ranger 10-13-2010 12:59 PM

Glad to have Drury coming back. :yo:

Who's the dude wearing the Drury jersey that deaks out that whole team and then puts in on the forehand off the post and in? I think we should sign him...

I agree about EC, but I think it's better to use Stepan in the 1st line role, or at the very least, swap Stepan/Drury as #1C instead of EC.

Torts' mentioned in the off-season that Drury will get his chance in a offensive role.

absolutely nothing to lose giving it a try, especially this early in the season.

NYRFAN218 10-13-2010 01:14 PM

I'm not a big fan of Drury playing between Gaborik and Frolov as I feel both Stepan and Anisimov would be a better fit but hey, it's game 3 of an 82 game season, may as well try it out. Worst case scenario, it doesn't pan out and you switch the lines but you never know, it could turn out to be a great combination. You'll never find out until you try it.
