Oilers and PHI

I just wanted to run a trade idea past you guys/gals and see if you think it's good for both teams.

The deal would revolve around many pieces so it's easy to pick apart but what do you think of the general concept?

Carter, and Hartnell come to EDM and Gagner, MPS, Cogliano, and Khabibulin(If you want him or a different goalie. Read on the main forum there may be interest in him).

Your lines I believe could look something like this.

NOTE: (Pajarvi on the 1st line because if you have Van Rym on the top then your second line won't have a physical element and this is more balanced?)

Pajarvi Richards Briere
Van Rym Gagner Zeredev
Leino Cogs Gireoux

EDM's lines would look like.

Penner Carter Hemsky
Hall Horcoff Eberle
Hartnell Fraser Brule

I love the lineups this gives both teams, of youth skill and size and speed and vets.

Plus you get the vet goalie, but EDM is fine to keep him if you don't want...

Interesting?

agrudez* 10-13-2010 05:17 PM

So you want to either give us a goalie about to go to prison or two terribly underachieving prospects in Deslauries or the other guy (he is so bad I can't even bother to look up his name)? All while taking 2 proven players from us in exchange for 3 unproven players with less potential than Carter?

Sign me up?

Mgkibbles 10-13-2010 05:19 PM

I'd give up anyone - other than Pronger, Richards, or Giroux - for Paajarvi, that kid is a stud.

I was thinking the same, and I'd love to see Sam Gagner rebound - love the kid's game, he just shouldn't have been in the NHL at 18.

SeanVT395 10-13-2010 05:35 PM

Honestly If the Flyers weren't a contender I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Although EDM would need to take a goaltender back, We already have more than enough as it is.

nuclear reactor 10-13-2010 05:41 PM

Might be a good deal for next off season.

Garbage Goal 10-13-2010 05:50 PM

I find your spelling of players names amusing (Zeredev, Gireoux)

Juicy Couturier* 10-13-2010 05:51 PM

Not bad but then we have 5 top 9 centers instead of the 4 we have now.

mirimon 10-13-2010 05:54 PM

As stated, it's not bad. I would love to see MPS in a Flyer jersey as well, even if Carter is one of my favourite players on the current roster. We're trying to win the cup this year though.

No interest in any of the goalies Oilers have though.

Kaktus* 10-13-2010 05:57 PM

This is not horrible like TyBozaks.

I like MPS and I see Gagner just a little below Giroux but then I know that Carter is worth at least 3 1st round picks. At least.

I was a huge Khabibulin in the past but I do not know if he is worth it health wise.

CS 10-13-2010 05:58 PM

Regardless of how nice the package is, and it certainly has some appeal, right now:

Gagner < Carter
MPS < Hartnell
Cogliano > Nothing
Khabibulin's baggage (cap hit, age, injuries, etc.) < Bobrovsky

In the future:

Gagner < Carter
MPS >/= Hartnell
Cogliano = Nothing (He'd get dropped/traded to retain other players instead of re-signed.)
Khabibulin's baggage (cap hit, age, injuries, etc.) < Bobrovsky

No reason to do this now or even in the future really.

MPS would be a major bust to only turn out as good as Hartnell.

SolidSnakeUS 10-13-2010 06:07 PM

Honestly, I'd trade right of the bat to try to get MPS. But I know he equals big bucks and big trade requirements just by himself.

Wow. I suspect in a year or two, MPS will be far and away a better player than Hartnell. They're likely to be equal in the next 3 months.

Gagner and Carter are two very, very different players, so comparing them is apples and oranges. Cogliano - not a big fan, but he could become a pretty good 3rd liner.

SolidSnakeUS 10-13-2010 06:17 PM

Why do I have a feeling that the only way MPS will ever leave Edmonton is with a trade? He's a stud, but I'm scared what we would have to give up to get him, outside of this whole proposal that is.

DrinkFightFlyers 10-13-2010 06:24 PM

I think I may be interested in this. I love MPS. I think the kid is going to be amazing.

How about just Carter for MPS and Gagner?

Even though Carter is getting off on the right foot right now, that is scary tempting. I'd probably only consider it at the trade deadline.

If the Flyers weren't built with the intention of winning the Cup this year they'd be foolish not to make that trade, but since the Flyers really loaded the roster this year before Giroux, Carter, Leino, and others need new contracts it won't happen.

If it helps MPS won't need to be signed for awhile and Gagner signed this offseason to a decent contract. You wouldn't have to sign Carter anymore as he would be in EDM. That should give you room for Leino and Giroux? The Oilers can take on a bigger contract as well if it expires after next season.

RoDu 10-13-2010 06:55 PM

who is MPS?

I still think if Leino doesn't do as well as we think he will, he won't be back.

Magnus Paajarvi Sveenson (sp?)

He's just changed his name to Paajarvi, but that's been his nickname among Oiler fans.

It all depends on how much he wants.
