I thought for sure that there were more than only twelve forwards signed. Interesting..

An Ape called Yoko 06-09-2004 11:53 AM

I´m pretty sure Mattias Weinhandl has a contract over next season.

Not if you look at this list of unsigned players for the next season: Free Agents 2004
He will most likely be resigned though, just as many other swedes. Last season we had 59 under contract, and it will probably be something around 50-55 next season. Salo, Calle J, Mårtensson, Renberg, Timander, Dackell, Ölvestad, Hannula and Jonas Andersson has already left, and I don't think there are enough players in the SEL to cover up all of them. Only Jonas Johansson has been signed so far among new players in the NHL.

To change topic: Has anyone among the finnish members seen any of the SC Finals, and heard anything about where Josef Boumedienne is gonna play next season? He was color commentator on Canal+ of what I understand.

Henrik Lundqvist will for sure not play for the NY Rangers or Hartford next season as he has decided to remain in Sweden.

Too bad, this means that unless Tellqvist or Holmqvist pulls of some kind of miracles, there will not be a swedish NHL starting goalie the next 2-3 years.

Leo Naphta 06-09-2004 01:16 PM

If Lundquist is interested in pursuing a career in the NHL, this is probably a mistake. The Rangers are in a rebuilding mode, and might be caring about their prospects for once. Playing in the AHL this year would have been a great chance for Lundquist to position himself for a place in the NHL next year. As it stands, Lundquist will play yet another year in europe, where he has nothing left to prove, and allow Blackburn the chance to consolidate his status as Rangers goalie of the future.

Timander has not signed a contract with MODO yet. Well Aftonbladet did claim that Timmy had sign a contract during Flyers Stanley Cup run, something tells me that ab is not correct as usual.

Not that I´m finnish, well I do have some relatives there...

...but if he doesn´t play in the NHL next season you will see him in a SSK uniform.

Agreed, somewhat stupid not to go. To give Blackburn this opportunity to glance is not good, and if he should fail, all responsibilty will be on Lundqvist, and such pressure isn't easy to handle. I, however, think Rangers will have patience with Lundqvist, as he is so talented, and showed under the WC that he can play well against star players.

Robertsson 4-ever 06-17-2004 01:05 PM

According to the guys on the Islanders board there is no official said about Weinhandl's contract, but he will be most likely be resigned for the next season. Hopefully he'll be ready to be a top-6 forward next season and register about 20 goals.

IMO we could put togehter four very competetive scoring lines last season:

Näslund - Forsberg - Ekman
Modin - Sundin - Alfredsson
Huselius - Nylander - Zetterberg
D Sedin - H Sedin - A Johansson

Most of them will be there next season, but Weinhandl could very well turn out to be one of those 12. Upgrades on Ekman and especially A Johansson wouldn't be wrong. How to replace Forsberg if he is gone? Can't be done, and Zetterberg will have to prove he is ready for a center role.

Robertsson 4-ever 06-26-2004 07:20 AM

No swedish player from the SEL has yet signed a NHL-contract, anyone know the reason for this?

Is it about the expiring CBA, or the expiring agreement between NHL and Europe, which have ended? However, one finnish player have signed this year, Teemu Kesä, so the current status between NHL and Europe shouldn't be a concern, IF he's not a special case of some sort.

Players like Magnus Kahnberg, Niklas Nordgren and Jonas Frögren should get NHL offers, but the teams maybe wait until the draft has ended.

Robertsson 4-ever 06-27-2004 06:16 AM

Hävelid have been traded from Anaheim to Atlanta.

Robertsson 4-ever 07-09-2004 11:54 AM

Josef Boumedienne have signed a new one-year contract with Washington.

Calgary Flames have signed Patrik Nilson. As he is not drafted he may not be allowed, to play in the NHL, but he most probably won't crack the lineup anyway.

Wasnt Nilson signed as a free agent out of the league he played for last season?

zecke26 07-15-2004 05:58 PM

and up because niclas wallin signed a new contract with carolina! :handclap:

lux_interior 07-16-2004 08:26 PM

Michael Holmqvist has signed a one-year deal with the Ducks

Robertsson 4-ever 07-18-2004 11:59 AM

Niklas Sundström, Niclas Wallin and Michael Holmqvist have been added to the roster which now has 29 players. Last season I think around 60-65 players had a NHL contract, but this season it'll be a lot less. Probably none player from the SEL will make the jump, as the new rules forbid them to do so (Transfer date changed from July 15 to June 15). This affect a player like Johan Franzen, who probably had signed with Detroit with the old rules.

Robertsson 4-ever 08-01-2004 02:25 PM

Johan Holmqvist have been bought out of his contract with Minnesota, and signed a contract with SEL-team Brynäs. He can however leave the team before September 15th if he is offered another NHL- or AHL-contract.

Free Agent Andreas Lilja have signed with Nashville.

Henrik Tallinder have extended his contract with Buffalo.

Leo Naphta 08-04-2004 12:14 PM

According to their site, Islanders have inked Weinhandl for yet another season.

Yes, now it's official.

Mikael Tellqvist has also re-signed with Toronto, and will probably be the only swedish goalie i NA next season.

Riddarn 08-10-2004 01:44 PM

Nylander has signed with the Rangers. So much for the SSK-rumour ;)

Is it official yet? Don't think so. Kim Johnsson and Freddy Modin will also sign shortly.

Predatore 08-10-2004 02:49 PM

pretty official I'd say :)
