Great timing H10h

This proposal was posted on the trade rumors board and not many Habs fans have commented.. Would you guys do this deal?

Do you think the Habs would be giving up too much or would it take more? I think it's too much...

It's probably a fair deal, but I couldn't pull the trigger if I were PG. Cammy and Pleks are vital parts to our team, not only as players on the ice, but off if it as well. Throw in Eller (who I've been impressed with) and our 1st. I would definitely pass on this one for the Habs.

It would get a pass from me too.. The Habs would cripple their depth with a deal like that plus there would be no one left for Malkin to produce with... I'd rather keep the production from Pleks,Cammy and Eller than deal it away for 1 player and have no one left for him to play with...

ChuckyToGally 10-17-2010 03:22 PM

If Kostitsyn can continue on the right path, I think that we are only a Robyn Regehr away to be VERY competitive. Of course, the second line LW is still a question mark right now but if Martin gives Pouliot or Eller a fair shot, I don't think it should be a problem.

What would it take to acquire Regehr (assuming that Hamrlik would have to go the other way for cap purposes)?

Habiton 10-17-2010 06:10 PM

If we want Regehr we are going to have to give someone cheap and that can play. This would only work next season or at the deadline when we can move hammer, etc. This is my idea (it wont happen but I like to dream).

To MTL:

Iginla
Regehr

To CGY:

Hammer/Spacek/Salary Dump
Max Pac
2011 First, 2012 First
Weber
Pouliot

Value-wise I think its there. Unless Calgary went rebuild, this wouldnt ever have a chance.

To just get Regehr, I dont think we would need to give up more than a good prospect + solid roster player and maybe a pick. Dont forget the rumored trade was an extremely injury prone, not to mention injured, Marc Savard.

That's WAY to much. At the trade deadline, Hammer will not have negative value, far from there. If the Flames were to acquire him, they could just let him walk this summer. There's no way that I would give three solid and young assets AND 2 1st round picks for Regehr. Not to mention that Hammer is still a solid defenseman.

EDIT : I just saw Iginla... now I understand! But he isn't available and what we really need is Regehr.

Habsterix* 10-17-2010 06:51 PM

Iginla isn't going anywhere.

/discussions.

Replace Plekanec with Gomez and I sign...

... doubt Pitt's fans would do it... anyway, they would need to shed salaries probably...

Ya, but you have to think if we are trading prospects for Regehr that is a pretty big sign that the Flames are rebuilding which might be a good chance to pick off Iginla too.

For just Regehr, I dont think we would need more than a roster player and a prospect.

Are Kostitsyn's sticks game used?

Monctonscout 10-18-2010 02:43 PM

Since the end of last year, it's always been a better move for the Habs to stick with AK rather than selling low. This being a contract year is a nice motivator, plus not having baby brother there as a distraction. I think he showed better conditionning which is helping him get off to a good start.

Centers
1. Prospal, Vinny - $2.480M - 35 - 13 Yrs - 6’2’’ 198 - Last Yr 58Pts or PPG 0.77
2. Drury, Chris - $7.050M - 34 - 11 Yrs - 5’10’’ 190 - Last Yr 32Pts or PPG 0.42
3. Christenson, Eric - $0.925M - 26 - 5 Yrs - 6’1’’ 203 - Last Yr 26Pts or PPG 0.53
4. Stephan, Derek - $0.875 - 21 - 0 Yrs - 6’0’’ 187 - Rookie
5. Anisimov, Artem - $0.822M - 22 - 2 Yrs - 6’4’’ 197 - Last Yr 28Pts or PPG 0.34
6. Boyle, Brian - $0.525M 25 - 3 Yrs - 6’7’’ 252 - Last Yr 6Pts or PPG 0.08
7. Kennedy, Tim - $0.018M - 24 - 2 Yrs - 5’10’’ 173 - Last Yr 26Pts or PPG 0.33

Defense

1. Staal, Marc - $3.975M - 23 - 3 Yrs - 6’4’’ 209 - Last Yr 27Pts or PPG 0.33
2. Rozsival, Michal - $5.0M - 32 - 9 Yrs - 6’2’’ 205 - Last Yr 23Pts or PPG 0.28
3. Del Zotto, Micheal - $1.088M - 20 - 1 Yrs - 6’1’’ 195 - Last Yr 37Pts or PPG 0.46
4. Girardi, Dan - $3.325M - 26 - 4 Yrs - 6’2’’ 215 - Last Yr 24Pts or PPG 0.29
5. Eminger, Steve - $1.125M - 26 - 7 Yrs - 6’2’’ 210 - Last Yr 16Pts or PPG 0.25
6. Gilroy, Matt - $1.750M - 26 - 1 Yrs - 6’1’’ 201 - Last Yr 15Pts or PPG 0.22
7. Sauer, Michael - $.508M - 23 - 0 Yrs - 6’3’’ 220 - Rookie
8. McDonough, Ryan - $1.3M - 21 - 0 Yrs - 6’1’’ 222 - Rookie

There you have it, a mismatch if I ever saw one. Seven NHL centers, some with both size and potential. One NHL defenseman (Staal) who I would give 2 cents for their defensive play this year (Del Zotto and McDonough though hold future promise). This is a team crying for a steady experienced NHL defenseman. Surely, someone on the Habs board can make up a deal to take advantage of this situation since we have a surplus of experienced D’s (Spacek, Hamrlik come to mind).

2 questions.

1-why would we want to help the Rangers?

2-which of those centers would help us other than Anisimov whom is probably untoucheable?

We have have depth at center, if Gauthier makes amove it would be for a top 6 winger if he figures that Boyd, Pouliot or Eller isn't the answer.

Why? To improve our club? The best time to make a deal is when the other club finds itself an untenable situation - like the Rangers with their D.

Anisimov, Stepan (not likely available), Dubinsky. They have excess quality centres and need D; We have D and need size and maybe quality up front.
