Parise for Weber

I know this has been thrown around a bit, but I want an honest Predators opinion on this possible trade.

This may not bode well, but my morbid curiosity has gotten the best of me. I think it's beneficial to both teams.

Even if it were "equitable" - and I don't know that it is - we just made Weber captain - we really gonna' trade that guy? How many Dmen with Weber's combination size/skill/toughness/leadership in the league? Seems tougher to find a franchise Dman like Weber than an elite wing like Parise.

PredsV82 10-18-2010 08:37 AM

simply, no.

Weber is the cornerstone of the franchise.

he will only be traded if he cant be extended here, which is highly unlikely

PerdFan 10-18-2010 08:48 AM

Since Poile and Preds ownership have already said they would do whatever it takes to keep Weber around...nope, ain't gonna happen. If Weber leaves, so do alot of the fan base. Considering the very good chance the Preds get Radulov back next season, who needs Parise?

MrJoshua 10-18-2010 09:19 AM

The only way Weber gets traded is if another team throws so much at Poile that he just can't say no. I mean, you'd have to cripple your franchise to get him because he's worth that much to Nashville. He's worth way more to Nashville than he's really worth, if that makes sense, because of what he means to the franchise. Team captain, the leader on and off the ice, one of the top players in the league, a Preds draftee who has grown to legit stardom ... it would take WAY more to get Weber than any team would actually want to do. It would take a MASSIVE overpayment.

BigFatCat999 10-18-2010 10:21 AM

Sorry but no. Nashville is offensively 12th in the league and on pace for for 267 goals this season. Weber and Suter are untouchable.

jlsg 10-18-2010 10:27 AM

Nobody is untouchable but it would take more the Parise to do this deal.

What he said.

Suter and a prospect for him would be perfect.

I don't think you can compare Radulov to Parise. Rads only played 2 yrs. in NHL and didn't equal Parise in either year.

glenngineer 10-18-2010 10:12 PM

As much as everyone sits and says no way to this, the value is about even on a deal like this. The Preds wouldn't do it and I don't believe NJ would either but the value of the players being exchanged is pretty equal. That's all I can say.

This is one of those situations where you have players on both sides that neither team is willing to trade, not even for each other. These two players are the present and future of their respective clubs, and I can't imagine a scenario where either player gets traded unless contract negotiations completely break down.

That's like us offering White + for Suter.

Don't get coy.

Parise is the face of the Devils franchise, as soon as Brodeur retires. Weber is Nashville's face. It's not an insult to propose such a blockbuster deal. It's actually pretty fair since Parise is arguably the second best LW in the league, behind Ovechkin.

Only kidding ;) Parise is one of my top 5 fav. players, trust me i honestly think it is fair value i just couldnt see Weber or Parise being traded ever unless conditions already stated were in place. But value wise? yes. Fits both teams needs? yes. Realistic? i couldnt tell you but id say no TBH.

I just think that people get sticker shocked when you mention Weber, I think we'd be more apt to trade Suter. I also think that the Devils would be able to fill the hole left by Parise quicker than the one left by Weber. However, I think this is much more fair than the penguins fans asking if we would do Weber for Malkin and then asking for Weber plus 2-3 prospects, which I find to be insulting.

Both Nashville and NJ say no.
