Good news on Vinny's knee(Will Miss 6-8 weeks)

Quote:

Prospal, who has opened the season on injured reserve after being sidelined for the exhibition season with right knee pain, may be able to rejoin the Rangers by the first week of December following Monday's procedure during which loose particles were removed from behind the joint.

It is believed those loose particles were responsible for the swelling in Prospal's knee that created pain that did not allow him to play.

Rangers could still put him on LTI for cap space until Prospal returns. 24 days and 10 games.

Good news, we need him back as soon as possible.

Vitto79 10-18-2010 01:58 PM

good news for sure. A healthy Vinny, Gabby, Dru would help for sure. hold the fort boys!

NYR Sting 10-18-2010 02:04 PM

Nice to hear. His enthusiasm is sorely missed on this team, not to mention his offensive talent.

Good news...

Big fan of Vinny and definitely gives a light at the end of the tunnel until those 3 guys come back.

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward Vinny Prospal underwent successful surgery on his knee this morning.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Andrew Feldman at the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York. Prospal will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

WOW, guys this is FANTASTIC news!

RangerBoy 10-18-2010 02:11 PM

6 weeks is November 29 against Pitt. 8 weeks is the week of December 13.

silverfish 10-18-2010 02:12 PM

Great news. Hope we can stay in the hunt until we're healthy and really make a strong push when it comes together at the end of the season.

Fitzy 10-18-2010 02:16 PM

This is fantastic news. If we can get Vinny for 40 or so games in the second half of the season, Drury coming back as will Gaborik, this might actually be a second-half team for once.

I was concerned that his career might be over.

And he's actually quite underrated as far as his play without the puck. Hopefully this procedure / down time combined with his age don't make him lose any significant speed. He's a good backchecker and reads the plays very well on both sides of the puck.

Frolov - Stepan - Gaborik
Dubi - Anisimov - Cally
Prospal - Drury - Avery
Prust - Boyle - Boogs

Edit: If Frolov and Gabby dont click then I flip Vinny and Fro

These are the lines I'd go with...basically sitting down EC and Fedotenko. Im sorry but I only see a marginal upgrade in Vinny over Tenko and no upgrade in Drury over EC (I'm afraid I'm being too generous to Drury here).

I certainly am not tempering my expectations of this team based on Vinny and Drury being out.

NYR Sting 10-18-2010 02:22 PM

My personal favorite

Prospal hasnt scored less than 45 points in a season since 2001. And only below 54 points once in that timeline.

fedotenko's career high in points is 41, and averages in the 30's

Drury, in his worst offensive season ever, still put up more than EC's point total last year, and he is one of the top 10 in the league at killing penalties.

Yeah, they are upgrades. Pretty damn big ones too.

BlueshirtBlitz 10-18-2010 02:26 PM

Great news, glad to hear his career isn't over yet. Big fan of Vinny and his personality.

One has to think though the surgery, even if it was a complete success, is gonna hinder him a little bit.

Staggarelli 10-18-2010 02:28 PM

Glad his career isn't over and hope is has something left in the tank when he comes back. We will need it.

Boom Boom Geoffrion* 10-18-2010 02:29 PM

This is excellent news! Not good news!

Look forward to seeing him back. Prospal was more than solid for us last season.

Great news!!! I was afraid his career was over. But getting him back that fast is great.

Gaborik, Drury, Prospal all coming back at about the same time, will really boost this team.

Hopefully they can keep up in the meantime.

big fat myth. worst agility in the league among non-enforcers and non-kyle wellwoods. leaves his position in order to block a shot. flubs on clearing attempts way too often. not strong pker in the neutral zone or in the offensive zone. does not apply pressure on the defenseman, rather sits back and waits to attempt a shot block.

lets contrast that with Cally who actually is an excellent penalty killer. Cally has superb agility. it seems like he can defend 3 guys at once because he adjusts to where the puck is passed so well. You want to talk about eating clock? how many times have we seen Cally keep control of the puck in the offensive zone for 10, 15 seconds a clip. We also see Cally force miscues by the defense and turn them into breakaways or odd man rushes because he can pounce on the defenseman as hes receiving a pass (again, agility).

Study the game, learn the game, live the game.
