I'm guessing Greene is coming back so they need to make room to send down a d man?? Someone must have intrest in him for DL to put him on re-entry. Thanks for everything Eric!

JBernierFan 10-22-2010 12:08 PM

Very odd. I wonder, as you mentioned, if someone is interested in him now. Jones was called up to Manchester from Ontario as well, so it looks like we know Ersberg will be gone by the weekend.

Either that, or something has happened to one of our goalies up here and we need Ersberg to back-up. Oh man, I hope not!

No

Ersberg is already in Manchester. This is to get rid of him or Loan him to Europe.

Jones was called up to Manchester as well

Yeah, Jones needs to be playing pros. If no one claims him, they will bury him or he will leave for Europe.

Fat Elvis 10-22-2010 12:16 PM

Does LA have to put EE on re-entry waivers in order for him to bolt to Europe?

DeeMeck 10-22-2010 12:21 PM

DL just wants him claimed so they don't have to pay the salary.

If he clears again and goes to Europe...we still have to pay him.

I remember when Erik came in, he impressed me. His game has gone downhill a bit. I'm not sad to see him go because we have Quick/Bernier/Jones/Zatkoff playing in the 4 actual pro goalie rules. I think Jones practicing and playing less games in Manch vs higher competition will benefit his development moreso than playing a ton of games vs ECHL opponents. So goodbye Erik. Thanks for your time here but unfortunately it just didn't work out.

I am not in the loop. How did EE break his contract? or is this a way to get out of the contract and let Ersberg sign in the KHL for maybe more money?

TonySCV 10-22-2010 02:18 PM

"Technically, in NHL terms Ersberg has violated his coontract, and after he clears waivers, the Kings will be able to terminate his contract and cut ties with him."

Peace out Iceberg

He played some good-to-great games, but it's obvious he is not the long term solution for the Kings.

My favorite memory of EE is the 2-0 shutout over Ottawa a few years ago, and he had his mask knocked off by a shot. He got up after he was hit, shook his head a bit, put his mask back on, and finished up his SO.

Remember that one as well.

EE was a good guy, but he stayed here about 2 years too long...IMO. Glad to see Zaktoff and Jones taking over in Manchester. Interesting duo to say the least. I have high hopes for Zaktoff and Jones.

TonySCV 10-22-2010 06:06 PM

We'll miss you EE. Thanks for DD.

Zizou 10-22-2010 06:59 PM

I'll never forget the 40 save shutout against the Sens in his debut. Sweet stuff. Good luck, EE.

Jebus 10-22-2010 07:11 PM

I'll never forget that matchup against Hiller near the end of the season two years ago. That was the best goalie battle I've ever seen.

JMFJ 3 10-22-2010 09:34 PM

Very serviceable, had some unbelievable performances in his limited appearances. Best of luck wherever he lands.

What did he technically do to technically violate his contract? I understand they did this to make both sides happy but what exactly did they do?

He signed/agreed to a new deal/contract with a KHL team ... something he technically can't do while currently under contract in the NHL with the Kings.
But it's something BOTH sides consider an agreeable under the table handshake loophole that ends up for the betterment of BOTH parties. Ersberg gets to go back to Europe and play in the KHL for maybe more $ than he'd make here, and the Kings are free from his contract and to allow the younger guys to move up the ranks. Win/Win.

Quattro 10-22-2010 10:26 PM

Best of luck, Eric. Complete class act.

jfont 10-23-2010 11:34 AM

Best of luck to EE...

I remember when he was a rookie and outplaying JL at the time. I think he even supplanted JL at that time. You know if he didn't get injured a couple of years ago JQ may not become the Kings #1. And they'd probably have a goalie controversy...

THEKingsFanInRI 10-23-2010 11:47 AM

What I will remember most about Ersberg.....

good luck Erik.
