Knicks-Magic game postponed due to asbestos-related debris falling onto hockey ice.

Knicks Game Postponed tonight

Due to asbestoes. Unbelievable. They should just scrap the $850 mio renovation, demolish and re-build from the ground up.

Knick game at MSG postponed due to falling debris.

Very interesting...

someones getting fired. its because of absestos

Fitzy 11-02-2010 02:21 PM

yuck. Poor health standards.

Levitate 11-02-2010 02:22 PM

Eh, asbestos isn't a big deal as long as you don't inhale dust from it, and even then, I think you have to have consistent exposure to it to really worry

hlundqvist30* 11-02-2010 02:23 PM

How the **** does that even happen?

Cmox 11-02-2010 02:24 PM

You would think Asbestos would be the first thing they take care of before renovating.. screw that I would think there would be check ups every few years at least. Lordy

Some countries have people living in houses full asbestos on daily basis. However, They're very careful about it here in the states and you can't really blame them for it.

NYRFAN218 11-02-2010 02:28 PM

I guess they just decided not to take care of the arena anymore with the renovations coming up.

Fitzy 11-02-2010 02:29 PM

asbestos fragments act like Pearls for cancer in your lungs. Best to avoid them at all costs.

Yup, just kinda putting it out there that this doesn't exactly mean everyone who's been to the Garden is going to die of lung cancer or something.

BobSantos 11-02-2010 02:31 PM

Please. Asbestos is very hard to get cancer from. You have to inhale, at length, of airborne particles.

Obviously asbestos falling from that height would create a cloud on impact, but after it is abated/disposed of there will be no further issues.

Cancelling a game because of this? My god, what a nanny state.

Check that, what a legalistic state of affairs. If a fan or player saw the asbestos it would probably be millions in lawsuits. "An abundance of caution". Hah.

Depressed Asbestos = Suicidal Plunge.

I'm not a expert on it but if it's not that big of a deal then the wrong person got word of this asbestos situation and now MSG is just doing this to save their ass.

FutureGM97 11-02-2010 02:36 PM

Must have rocked the Garden so much from the game...

redfzn 11-02-2010 02:40 PM

I actually remember my date mentioning something about the ceiling looking dingy during the Colorado game this season- we sat in the 400s.

SRTtoZ 11-02-2010 02:40 PM

Pretty sure this puts into question the Ranger game on Wednesday...

Yah, even inanimate objects refuse to sit through another Knicks game. ;)

Fitzy 11-02-2010 02:41 PM

To be a nanny state it has to actually involve... the state.

Sounds like this was a business decision by MSG to avoid lawsuits... so... damn legal system and accountability! :P

All part of Dolan's plan to get a new arena built.

Loffen 11-02-2010 02:43 PM

That dosen't sound too good.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I wouldn't mind a brand new arena.

They don't play at MSG again until Sunday v. St. Louis.

Key line in MSG statement: "We will not reopen the Garden until we are absolutely assured the arena is safe." Asbestos is a serious issue.
