What's the deal with Boyd? Why can't he catch on anywhere?

He's a flake.

Reign Nateo 11-08-2010 11:30 AM

Even though Boyd hasn't performed all that great, still just 24 and a C, I could see a team take a chance on him. If his F/O% was better I could see the Canucks claiming him with the injuries to Bolduc and Desbiens. But he likely clears as teams probably prefer what they have.

Psycho Papa Joe 11-08-2010 11:31 AM

I had hopes for Boyd, but you know you suck when M.Darche keeps a job in the NHL and you get waived.

I kind of hope the Devils take a chance on Boyd.

Exactly. Weak physically and poor defensively. Not a good bottom six player and not enough offense for a top 6 spot.

He's got wheels and that's about it.

Patty Roy 11-08-2010 11:34 AM

Boyd isn't terrible, the problem is that Montreal's bottom 6 is filled with Dustin Boyd type players.

Hopefully the Habs call up Ryan White. He's a much better fit on their bottom 6.

I think Boyd could use some time in the AHL personally... I believe he was rushed by the Flames... he is too small for a bottom 6 roll and not good enough for a top 6 spot... and yet he hasn't had a full AHL season... that is something he needed

With their cap, they would probably want to send someone back of cheap value just to not take on 650k more. The players the Devils have on the bottom 6 are some AHL players.

I just dont think they would try to pick im up as its more cap they have to take.

Blind Gardien 11-08-2010 11:41 AM

Boyd didn't get too much of an opportunity in Montreal, but on the flip side he didn't seem to go out of his way to make much of the opportunity that he did get. At the end of the day, I don't think he's better or worse than some players like Pyatt or Darche in the Habs' lineup. But at the end of the same day, a player needs to have some trait that a team can identify you with, and Boyd was awfully anonymous for the Habs.

As others have indicated, he doesn't seem to have the skill level to play in the top-6, but he doesn't bring any tenacity or physical involvement to be noticeable in the bottom-6 either. As with D'Agostini and Chipchura last year, I believe ultimately he's a victim of not having won over the coach, but is not intrinsically a bad player nor a player who couldn't conceivably do better with some other team. Hopefully he catches on somewhere, or alternatively learns to add a new dimension to his game with a stint in the minors.

Chris Neil says: Well that's just typical Brian McGrattan.

Considering we have about 8 injured players, our salary cap issues are history.

Poor Boyd, I had hopes of him getting things going in Montreal.

...and then skates away as fast as he can while Carkner fights McGrattan.

Point out once where Neil has skated away so someone else can fight his battles. If you are going by what McGrattan is saying, remember will never play again in the NHL, so you need to look at the source.

Yeah its not like Neil has 8 NHL seasons, all of which have seen him put up more PIMs than McGrattan ever has. Not to mention 3 years with 199+ pims. And not to mention having over 1500 pims compared to under 400 by McGrattan.

Yeah Neil is a total puss.

Oh I read the entire thread, that has nothing to do with two Sens fans missing the point of a one-liner.

So whats the point buddy? I'm pretty sure I understood it pretty well. It's not very ambiguous.

LGSens 11-08-2010 01:18 PM

A one liner that holds no basis. McGrattan can say what he wants, but the facts show he is wrong. Will he be taking his one liners with him to the ECHL?

Yeah I don't think anyones missing the point...?

Your insinuating Neil needs Carkner to fight heavyweights for him? Or any fights for that matter? Neil's fought about as many heavies as he has fairly matched fights over his career...McGrattan's comments really didn't make any sense. Neil fights less now because he plays on a 3rd line that is actually extremely effective every night.

SpezDispenser 11-08-2010 01:21 PM

I guess Grats big dramatic expose on Neil didn't work as he planned. As most people said at the time, the days of the pure enforcer are all but over, you have to play the game as well.
