who would want semin in the free-agency

lets say semin doesnt wanna resign with washington what teams would be in the bidding war or at least interested im just curious because if he were to leave wherever he goes to would immediately become my second favorite team

The Chef* 11-12-2010 06:54 PM

Ottawa has cap space this summer and in need of a sniper, but Semin is Russian so...

NFITO 11-12-2010 06:54 PM

Dynamic goal scorers, despite their deficiencies, always get a lot of interest in the UFA market.

My guess is that there would be at least 20 teams interested in adding him... the question becomes how much they're willing to spend to get him.

The better question is who wouldn't want him? As a Canuck fan, I doubt they'd have any interest in him, given their top-6 is already filled, they are one of the higher scoring teams in the league and have their long-term contracts locked up with little cap flexibility over the next few years.

some others - Philly, Boston, NJ, Chicago or San Jose also appear to be teams that wouldn't have much interest - all either deep at top-6, contracts locked up, cap inflexibility, or all of the above.

For most other teams though, a guy with his goal-scoring resume will be highly sought after.

SLAPSHOT723 11-12-2010 06:57 PM

I can see Dallas being a darkhorse in signing Semin.

Schenn 11-12-2010 06:57 PM

I personally don't like him.
I doubt Burke really likes him that much,

But I would like to see Toronto make a push for him. Toronto needs more offense soooo badly.

JeffMangum 11-12-2010 06:58 PM

I would hope the Rangers pursue him.

Realistically, I don't see him moving. If he were going to, I could see Detroit going after him.

Doesn't he play LW?

Dallas is absolutely STACKED at LW.

He's better at LW (or seems so), but he's been used almost exclusively at RW for the past few seasons. More flexibility with Ovie at LW.

KopitarFAN 11-12-2010 07:04 PM

On paper, LA would make sense. But I see Dean Lombardi making a bigger push for Brad Richards.

CNS 11-12-2010 07:06 PM

Kings would offer a contract and he'd then end up choosing another team, thus making Dean Lombardi 0/5 or something like that at getting us a legit sniper on the team.

Bordeleau Of Blood 11-12-2010 07:08 PM

He'd look great alongside Stastny & Stewart on the Avs top line.

txpd 11-12-2010 07:08 PM

Dallas is absolutely STACKED at LW.

But they have a huge lack of right handed shots.

Agreed, Semin will be with Washington next contract as well.

Some team with a lot of cap space, however most teams with cap space are not contenders, such as the islanders, etc. If he wants to sign with a contender he'll have to take a bit of a pay cut, is he willing to do this? I think he'll end up back with the Caps or end up on a lower tier team just for the money.

Kevin27nyi 11-12-2010 07:56 PM

please isles, please!

what?

brtriad 11-12-2010 07:56 PM

There's always a few blocks in every city that's treading for Semin year round, not just during Free Agency.

HooliganX2 11-12-2010 07:57 PM

I think almost every team would love him. Him and Richards are the top 2 free agents it would be interesting how much he can get. It all depends on the length and $$ for who will pursue him. Also to say a rebuilding team has not use is not true. He is still young. He could be the player to push a rebuild forward.

Jag68Sid87 11-12-2010 08:00 PM

If the Penguins aren't at least 'interested', then there's a big problem.

ZomboIsGod 11-12-2010 08:01 PM

The Blues could really use him. He's exactly the type of player we need and could mentor Tarasenko when he comes over in the summer. but until our ownership situation is sorted out, I can't really predict what we will do in free agency..

Ultimately, I think he stays with the Caps but one can dream!

Playmaker09 11-12-2010 08:06 PM

Habs should be interested. We have the money and I doubt there will be many big names left come July 1.

Habstract 11-12-2010 08:07 PM

LA would take the Bongo player.

lol to no money. The Habs will have over $24 million in cap space this summer, plus the cap increase.

Jzk 11-12-2010 08:18 PM

He'd look good in a bluenote.
