Jeff Carter Contract Extension, 11/13/10

“I’m sure as everyone knows by now, we have reached an agreement with Jeff Carter on a long-term contract. We’re happy to have Jeff signed for the foreseeable future. He’s an integral part of the core of our hockey team. This took a little bit of time to get done, but we’re happy to have it done.”

Q: Paul, does he have a no-trade [clause] at all in this contract, and when does it kick-in?

“It’s a limited no-trade. There’s a brief time that we can’t trade him. Obviously, that’s not an issue right now. We’re happy to have this done. Jeff is a part of the future of the Flyers.”

17 and 18 -- Flyers for life. Good for Carter...definitely could've gotten more money over those 11 years. Obvious he wants to be here.

Don Nachbaur 26 11-13-2010 02:26 PM

Wow. Love the cap hit

Haute Couturier 11-13-2010 02:26 PM

Eat it, haters. Carter's going to be here for the rest of his career. :yo:

Yes yes yes yes yes

I knew he was going to be resigned, so I got over that

The thing that was worrying me was how much he was going to get, but a $5.27m cap hit is good. I didnt want it over $6m

El Dandy 11-13-2010 02:28 PM

I don't like him, but how can I be mad at a guy with a 5.27 cap hit?

Was expecting over 6, but he took almost 1 million less. Love it. Can't stay mad at him. I'll learn to appreciate him over the next 11.

Love the cap hit.

Do not like the length.

Philadelphia Flames 11-13-2010 02:28 PM

Love Carter!!!!!!

11 years is kinda long but 5.27 cap hit? Ill take it. I guess the constant changing of players on our roster wont happen anymore. We pretty much signed alot of our players to long term deals, guaranteeing their with the team. Lets just hope they dont get injured.

Good news!

Mr Oysterhead 11-13-2010 02:30 PM

Fire it up!!!! Great deal Homer. Have some, Carter haters.

BringBackStevens 11-13-2010 02:31 PM

Love it.

5.25 is probably chump change 11 years from now, even if Carter starts to decline

you either give him length, or you give him money

MsWoof 11-13-2010 02:33 PM

I almost crashed the car when I saw this. What a cap hit!!!! And I'm glad it's less than Richards' cap hit and contract cause that's how it should be.

Can you hear splashing? That's the sound of CartsiePhan's tears raining down!

Leino's turn!

Sawdalite 11-13-2010 02:33 PM

If he puts out for the years he plays, IMO that is a stone cold steal for the Flyers... considering that the star players will be making much much more than that.

I assume that it is front loaded though and he will be making much more cash and can walk later in the contract while still getting most of his contracted money. I also assume that the number of the years in the deal has been determined by the new NHL tested guidelines to not be considered circumvention.

I am one happy camper... and I had already decided to wear my Carter jersey tonight, so I'm golden. :YO:

SolidSnakeUS 11-13-2010 02:33 PM

Amazing price for that. Glad to hear he isn't breaking the bank.

The length is what allows you to love the cap hit... so, yeah. No way Carter agrees to a $5.27M cap number unless he was getting a contract that took him through the rest of his career.

Under 35 year old player... what's the problem? Serious question.
