Buf/NYI/Edm 3-Way

Edmonton calls up Souray and the Islanders take him on re-entry waivers:

To Buffalo:

Souray
Weight
NYI 3rd or 4th round pick
Oilers 6th round pick

To NYI:

Drew Stafford
Chris Butler

To Edmonton:

Craig Rivet

Then you try to dump Connolly for a pick and this is your lineup:

Ennis Roy Vanek
Adam Weight Pommers
Hecht Goose Grier
Ellis McCormick Kaleta
Neids/Gerbe

Sekera Myers
Leopold Montador
Morrisonn Souray
Weber

Ron Barr 11-18-2010 02:17 AM

I would want nothing to do with either of those guys.

ImpressedDAHagent 11-18-2010 02:26 AM

that is a pretty bad proposal.

Proposals and Eklund rumour threads should be banned from HF Boards...

WhoIsJimBob 11-18-2010 07:06 AM

The Sabres need to shore up their play in their own zone.

Adding Souray makes that tougher.

If the Sabres are talking trade with the Isles and feel the need to get a guy that can run a PP at the expense of defensive zone play, I want James Wisniewski who is a UFA-to-be who is tied for the NHL lead in PP Pts for defensemen.

thefifagod 11-18-2010 10:55 AM

big no

Myllz 11-18-2010 11:00 AM

Two more aging veterans on the downside of their careers that don't do anything to help this team now. Sign me up!

ohheyimmark 11-18-2010 11:12 AM

Tallinder.

Sorry, had to.

Zip15 11-18-2010 11:16 AM

Terrible. Awful. Shall I keep going?

Gags89 11-18-2010 11:17 AM

Edmonton takes it and runs. Anything would help out their awful defense. Terrible from Buffalo's perspective though.

JOHNBOY 11-18-2010 12:09 PM

No thanks, if this is proposed five years ago... maybe....

BuiltTagonTough 11-18-2010 12:20 PM

Not a chance Buffalo gets in on this.

Duddy 11-18-2010 12:21 PM

Tavares + Hall to Buffalo would be much better.

Almost anything would be much better.

Wisniewski doesn't play defense either, so there is no point in wanting him.

No to the original proposal; we're not only taking on salary, but terrible players.

Edit: Nevermind, missed the re-entry part.
Still, I don't want Souray or Weight; they both suck.

If we're talking trade with the Isles..

Pominville for Bailey.

That is an intriguing idea.

As a side note

I can't believe how few players the Isles have under contract for next season. It looks like the Sabres's roster going into the summer of 2006.

The Isles have 10 UFAs and 8 RFAs next summer. Bailey being one of the RFAs

We are in the same boat:
UFA:
Lalime
Montador
Rivet
Connolly
Ellis
Grier
McCormick
Niedermayer
----- ahl-----
Parrish
Conboy
Stuart

RFA:
Stafford
Sekera
Butler
Weber
Gerbe
Enroth (not ahl worthy)
-----Ahl---
Persson
Mancari
Whitmore
Schutz
Turnbull
Leggio
Gragnani
McCauley

Darcy will have to do some work to keep this team intact and competitive..this offseason will remind me of a untalented 07 offseason.

He's got a chance to be pretty good. I'm thinking his ceiling is 2nd line center. Not like he's got any linemates to work with on the island. I think it'd be a cool experiment. However we'd probably have to switch some stuff around...

We're not in the same boat. Btw I was primarily focusing on their current NHL roster not their entire organization.

If you're going to compare the relatice roster building situations the two teams face. Who they have under contract for next year matters when looking at these things. Having 11 players signed for next season, many of them core level players, puts us in a good jumping off point to build next years team.

Ennis/Roy/Vanek
Hecht/XXX/Pommer
XXX/XXX/XXX
XXX/Goose/Kaleta

XXX/Myers
Leopold/XXX
XXX/XXX

Miller
XXX

its a far better starting off point than having Tavares, Hunter, Martin and Nielson at forward; Streit, Eaton Mottau and MacDonald on defense and Dipietro in net.

Ron Barr 11-19-2010 05:01 AM

Bailey is pretty much a young Pominville IMO. I'm not terribly opposed to the idea but it wouldn't make us better. Getting rid of that contract is a plus though.

Or how about this:

to NYI:
Tim Connolly
Drew Stafford
Chris Butler
2011 2nd Rounder

to BUF:
Mark Streit
Josh Bailey
