Will Hank get 10 Shutouts?

Simple question: Yes or No

Since he just posted his 3rd shutout of the season last night, it got me wondering if he can reach 10 shutouts this season.

If Hank is to make 62 starts, giving Biron 20, which is somewhat generous, it would mean Hank has 45 more starts to get 7 shutouts.

I think he can do it, as long as the defense stays healthy. If Staal or Girardi were to miss significant time, it doesn't happen.

Ten is also his career high posted in the 07-08 season.

Jabroni 11-27-2010 02:23 PM

No.

I think he'll come close with 7-8, but not reach 10.

Ih8theislanders 11-27-2010 02:24 PM

I think he will. I could see anywhere from 8-11.

BrianBoyle 11-27-2010 02:26 PM

Yes, because I'm an optimist.

I bet if we asked this after the Colorado game, everyone woulda said no.

t3hg00se 11-27-2010 02:41 PM

Depends on the team in front of him.

I went with yes simply because I have a lot of confidence in our D-corps this year.

SwedishBullet62 11-27-2010 02:46 PM

No, do I want him to? Is he capable of it YES. My reasoning for saying no is because with Biron a capable backup torts can afford to rest hank against "inferior" opponents that Hank would have a good shot at getting a shutout against. I just think hank is going to play against the better opponents then Biron will and have less chances to get shutouts. I think Hank will probably fall short with 7-8

Fitzy 11-27-2010 02:48 PM

Well, if you remember, Henrik's worst statistical season in terms of SV% at .912 was also the same year that he had his career high in shutouts with 10.

Shutout #s to me are vastly overrated.

you gotta figure for every stinker, he comes back with a stellar showing. our record my be suspect this year but hanks pride and will are strong attributes in his game.

in other words, the more piss poor games we have the better the likelyhood he posts a shutty the next game, and if the team plays even somewhat more astute post stinker that just makes it easier to attain that record.

if we were a better team, it may actually work against him in a way.

Fitzy 11-27-2010 02:57 PM

MSG's math sucks, btw.

539-45= 496

496/539= .920 sv%

Ail 11-27-2010 02:59 PM

No, going with 8.

KingWantsCup 11-27-2010 03:01 PM

Yes but not a confident yes. Biron takes hurts his chances but helps him stay rested for the play offs which is WAY more important.

Net Front Presence 11-27-2010 03:26 PM

My guess is that he will get 9.

Stugots 11-27-2010 03:27 PM

It will be close. I'm going to say 8-9.

Bird Law 11-27-2010 03:32 PM

I would prefer him to start less games than to get 10 shutouts, but I'm going with starting less games AND getting 10 shutouts.

Osminator 11-27-2010 04:08 PM

30+ wins is more important...

WPGNYRFan 11-27-2010 04:22 PM

Yeah, I'm more worried about him keeping his 30 win streak alive, which might be closer than we like this year.

I'd agree. But, lets not forget, both wins and shutouts are team stats.

Goaltenders can control those stats, especially wins, only so much. Teams win games, not goaltenders. I always thought the number of wins a goaltender gets, being the primary stat of focus for Vezina voting, being bogus. Goalies can put up a .925SV% and still have a losing record (look at Vokoun last year). In that case, his win total isn't indicative of his play.

DubiDubiDoo 11-27-2010 05:15 PM

I'd like to think the defense will get better as the year goes on, so I went yes

NewYorkStranger 11-27-2010 05:31 PM

Being that he has three and hasn't hit a hot streak yet I would think it's a foregone conclusion. Hank is due for about a 30 game streak where he is unconscious, he does it nearly every year.

Mint Berry Crunch 11-27-2010 05:47 PM

I'll reach for the stars, he'll get 12 this season.

RangerBlues 11-27-2010 06:19 PM

10 is an easy number.

Actually, winning playoff rounds, and carrying a team far into the playoffs and possibly to the cup is the most important thing.

Who really cares about regular season stats.. These 30 wins are kind of inflated this era anyway as some wins are won with shootout wins.

You need to win in the regular season, and in the shootout, to have a chance to play in the playoffs. I think it is going to be hard to make the playoffs without lundy getting 30 wins, unless niron gets like 13+.

But anyways about the survey. It would be real nice if he does get 10, its not out of the question. He's already got 3, I say he hits a real hot streak, and reaches 9-12 shutouts.

mrjimmyg89 11-27-2010 07:13 PM

This is a lot closer then I thought. I would have figured a lot of people would have shot down this idea, but it seems like people are fairly optomistic. If he keeps the 3 SO's per 17 game stretch, he'll get 10 shutouts, maybe 11.

I agree the 30 wins is important, but SO's are almost guaranteed wins.

Primetime Powerplay 11-27-2010 08:02 PM

anywhere from 7-11
